About sixteen dudes and as
nany mashers assembled in
triasa meeting last night at the
court bous *, and under tito
able management of Messrs,
J. B, Wells, Jr., and Stanley
Welsh formed wtyat will in
the future be known as the
Gráiu Gadefs: We did not get
an authentic eopy of the min-
utes of the meeting, and will
have to substitute the follow-
ing disjointed facts, which we
learned as a looker-on.
Trl.e S. A* Express man was
therp and we think ''joined
>be army," and from the way
in «hich hovered «.round the
presidential throne at one
time, we thought he had some-
thing to do with that part of
the machine. The Blue Club
baud discoursed sweet music
at different intervals, hut the
monotony whs broken by a
burst, of lip tmisi« from Stan-
ley Welsh. Mr. Welch ma le
a uifl# speech and frequently
the'American Eagle screamed
as did 'he Grain Cadets, when
he remi ded them of what
an important figure they
would cut in the coming con-
gressional canvass. The cadets
looked very sweet arid happy
when they were a.l congrega-
ted around the district clerk's
desk and were listening to
what Mr. Welch had.to tell
them. Mr. W said that Judge
Quinine had said air Victoria
' put the rascals out and let
us get iu ourselves," when
speaking in regard to what
the democrats would do if
they were victorious in the
coming race. We did not ex-
actly understand Mr. Welch's
idea of civil service reform,
from the foregoing remark,
but the cadet# did, and > they
all smole huge smiles and
winked significantly at each
other.
Mr. Henry Hord was elect-
ed temporary chairman; com-
mittees on permanent organi-
sation and platforms, respec-
tively, were appointed. The
committee on permanent or-
ganization after smoking fov
a long time in the ante-room,
reported as the result of their
labors the suggestion that Mr,
Benjamin Kowalski be made
permanent chairman and that
six vice presidents be elected
—mentioning the six vice
presidents whom it thought
more capable than the rest of
the club, in attending to the
important duties of these re-
active offices. The entire
reported by the com
went, tnrpugh like hot

.committee coming, with the
air of importance that such
committees always assume,
Mr. K. p-omptly moved a
short distance from the chair,
in order to be escorted there-
to according to parliamentary
rules and regulations. Then
the six vice presidents and the
other officers of the club—in
eluding the treasurer—took
their positions by the presi
dent—ranging themselves on
either side.
The San Antonio Express
man did not get an office—not
even a vice presidency. "But
he got an item, not out of the
Cosmopolitan—as he usually
does—hut from the meeting
of the Grain Cadete. Speeches
were then in order. Mr. S
Welch spoke as before men-
tioned. and then Mr. Brito.—
We then folded our tents and
sailed away.
Nice hotel clerks they have
in the capital. The other
day Sr. M. G, Salinas left
$375 in gold in charge of
Manuel Abascal. clerk of th>
Telegraph hotel. Manuel
gambled the money aW«y
and when the owner returned
could only" produce $160 in
paper currency in lieu of it.
A convoy with $100,000 in
treasure was recently sent
from Durango to Jmuilco on
the Central BR., to be taken
thence to the United States.
