Two parties were given in Hous-
ton last week to fete Miss Helores
Manas, bride-to-be of Wm. A.
Humphreys of Houston. Mrs. A. K.
Kvans Jr. entertained at her hortv
with a linen shower on February
16 at which time the Valentine in
tif was used throughout the decor-
ations and were further noted in
the refreshments of punch and
heart emboaaed individual cakes.
On Friday evening, Mrs. Newton
Humphreys and Mrs. Kmma l.ati-
dolt were hostesses for a miscella-
neous shower given at the former's
home. Chosen colors of the bride-
to-be, pink and white, were used
in decorating the rooms. A lurge
box covered with white crepe pa-
per and decorated with a large
pink bow and filled to overflowing
with lovely gifts were presented
to the honoree. Frosted punch and
pink decorated cak« <|uares were
served to forty-five guests.
Mrs Joe Manas, Mrs. Wm. Ed-
wards and Mrs. Frank Ofczamak of
this city Were in Houston to at-
tend the shower Friday evening.

The home of Mr and Mrs. John
Krenek was the scene of a family
gat-together last Sunday, when
n-iatives came to spend the day and
visit with Mr. and Mrs. Vic Gr*
hum who were guests of the Kren-
oka*. Those in attendance were Mr.
and Mrs. V. J. Balear and Ronn e
of Austin, Dr. and Mrs. E. M.
Krenek of Taylor, Dr. F. J. Krenek,
Mra. F. M. Sebesta, Mr. and Mrs.
E. O. Blasek, Mr. and Mrs. Ed
Bush Jr. and children, all of Bryan
and numerous Caldwell friends
who came in to viait in the after-
noon.
BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR
Mra. J. O. Schiller
The Ladies' Aid Society of tho
Moravian Brethren Church spon-
sored a birthday party held in the
spacious living room of the new
manae, Thursday, Februury 17,
honoring Mra. J. O. Schiller on her
KHth birthday, Mrs. Schiller is a
charter member of the Aid Socie
ty, which was organized in 1023,
and is numbered in the group who
canvassed the community and sue
eeeded in organizing the Brethren
Sunday School and later the church
out of the membership of the Sun-
day School.
Mrs. Pete Sefick, president of
th«* Society, spoke a few words in
appreciation of the devotion of
Mrs. Schiller to the church and
presented her with a beautiful pot-
ted plant. Mrs. Joe Holuhec of-
fered a prayer of thanksgiving for
all members who have remained
faithful to the work of the Society
throughout the years.
A beautiful embossed birthday
cake was also given to Mrs. Schil-
ler to be used later at a private
family gathering.
Delicious refreshments were
served while the ladies enjoyed
viewing pictures of themselves in
their girlhood days.

Lackland Air Base and Carey New-
comb of San Antonio, Mr. *ind Mrs.
O. J. (iodbehere of Bryan, Mr.
and Mrs. Jack N'ewcomb of Huntb-
ville spent the week end with their
parents. Mr. and Mrs. F. S. New-
comb. They received a meaagc
Saturday from their son Cpl. Fred
W. Newcomb, who has just re-
turned from Oermany, that he is
now at Vallejo, California.

BECOMES BRIDE OF
MILTON L. POLANSKY
In a double ring ceremony held
8unday at 11 o'clock at the par-
sonage of St. Mary' Catholic
church, Miss Lillie Bravenec,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Bravenec of Chriesman, became the
bride of Milton L. Poianaky, aon
of Mr. and Mrs. Louis R. Polansky
of this city, with Rov. V. A. Svrcek
officiating.
The bride wore an originul model
suit of ice-blue gabardine with
pink sheer blouse and her grey
spring atruw was enhanced with
pink rosebuds. Pink glovea an<l
other accessories in grey comple*
ed her ensemble. Her corsage was
of pink rosebuds.
Misa Dorothy Bravenec and
('hurles Polansky, sister and
brother of the couple, were theit
only attendants. Mr. and Mrs.
Henry Piwonka of Bryan were wit
nesses.
A number of relatives and
friends attended the ceremony and
the wedding dinner which followed
at the home of thu bride's parents.
The couple left for a honeymoon
trip and on their return will go to
their new home in Austin.
The bride graduated from Cald
well High School and has for the
past three year been employed at
the First State Bank in Caldwell
The groom is also a Caldwell High
School graduate, nerved as navi-
gator in the Air Corps in the re-
cent World War, and is now em-
ployed with the civil service at
Austin.
Mr. and Mrs. James Fural of
Temple spent several days last
week in the home of Mr. and Mrs.
H. F. Mahlman at Deanville. Mrs.
Mahlmann returned home with
them for a visit. While there they
received a telephone call from Mr.

Lake City, Utah, announcing the
arrival of a baby girl. Marlene
Rae, I torn February 1*. Mrs. Brown
will bo remembered as Alune Mahl-
man.
Mr. C. J. Jancik was taken by
ambulance to the home of his
son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and

children of Kormit visited in the
H. H. Rockett home over the week-
end. "Brick" and Bruce remained
with their grandparents while the
Connors are moving to their new
home in Midland, Mr. Connor hav-
ing been promoted to the position
of regional manager for the
Hughes Tool Company. Mr. and
Mrs. T. G. Rockett of College Sta-
tion also visited in the Rockett
home.
Mra. H. A. Willis Sr. has re-
turned to her home at Franklin
after a visit here in the home of
her son and daughter-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. H. A. Willis Jr. and with
her little grandson, "Mike."
Mr. and Mrs. Weldon Maples of
College Station were here Sunday
to visit with their mother, Mrs. W.
D. Corder and to see their uncle,
B. I. Addison, who ia ill at his
home.
