NOTICE OF CITY ELECTION
Pursuant to an order of the
City Council of Caldwell, Burleson
County, Texas, an election is here-
by ordered to be held in the City
Hall in the said City of Caldwell,
on the first Tuesday of April 194Í ,
the same being the 5th. of April,
1949, for the purpose of electing a
City Secretary and three Alder-
men, to serve a term of two years.
All qualified voters under the
constitution and laws of the state
of Texas, who have resided in the
aaid City of Caldwell, for a period
of six months prior to the date of
auch election are entitled to vote
at that election.
Said election will be held and
conducted under the general law
of the State of Texas.
Mr. II. F. Broaddus was appoint-
ed Presiding Judge; W. B. Terry
was appointed Asst. Judge; Mrs
F. S. Newcomb and Mrs. Pauline
Ba*ndt were appointed Clerks, to
hold said election, and due return
made thereof as requested by law.

I, J. L. Pounder, Mayor of the
City of Caldwell, Texas, byt virtue
of the power vested in me by law,
do hereby order that an election
be held in the City of Caldwell,
Texas, on April 5th. 1949, being
the first Tuesday thereof, for the
purpose of electing the following
officers of said City;

for the office of Mayor, Alderman
and other offices for the City of
Caldwell, Texas; providing for elec-
tion officers, place and manner of
holding City elections and provid
ing for notice.
Be it ordained by the City Coun
ell of the City of Caldwell, Texas
Section 1. AH elections pertain
ing to municipal affairs shall be
governed by the election laws of
the State of Texas. In all city
elections, the Mayor, City Secre-
tary (or Clerk), or the governing
body shall do and perform each
act in other elections required to
be done and performed respective-
ly by the County Judge, the County
Clerk, or the Commissioner's
Court. In allcity elections the May-
er, or if he falla to do so, the gov-
erning body, shall order the elec-

Section I. Any eligible and quali-
fied person may have his name

tion with the Mayor at least thirty
(80) days prior to the election day.

at the city election to be held on
the day of April 19 ;
and I hereby certify that I am
qualified to make this application
and that I am legally qualified to
hold such office, if elected.

be appointed by the Mayor of the
City of Caldwell, Texas: that tin-
presiding officer shall be compen-
sated for his services at the rate
df six dolars ($0.00) per day and
said assistant judges shall be com-
pensated at the rate of five dol-
lar.- (¡f5.u0) per day, which ser-
vices shall be paid from the general
fund of the city. (If additional
voting places «ir help are used, this
Section should so specify.)
Section 8. That hereafter all
elections for the selection of offi-
cials shall be held at the City Of-
fice tu- City Hall in the City of
Caldwell, Burleson County. Texas
between the hours of 8:01) A. M.
and 0:00 P. M.

Chief "f Police) shall post a prop-
erly executed copy of the election
proclamation and notice at the
place (places) where the election
is to be held. Said notice shall be
posted thirty days before the date
of said election.
Section 10. it shill be the duty
of the City Secretary to notify all
persons elected, and all newly elec-
ted officers may enter upon their
duties on the fifth day thereafter,
Sundays excepted. If any such of-
ficer fails to qualify within thirty
duys after his election, his office
shall be deemed vacant, and a new
election held to fill the same.

Of Rain Falls in Month
While the county has received
nearly three inches of precipita-
tien since January 1 tl, according
to records made available by Mrs.
F. J. Psencik, much more rain is
still sorely needed and many tanks
are not half filled. From January
10 through February 16 it had
rained 2.77 inches.

Section 4. The names of all
those who have filed their sworn
applications to have their names
printed on the official ballot as
candidates shall be posted by the
City Secretary in a conspicuous
place at his office for the inspec-
tion of the public for at least ten
days before h<- orders the ballots
to be printed. All objections to the
regularity or validity of the ap-
plication of any person shall be
made within five day- after such
posting, by written notice filed
with the City Secretary, setting
forth the grounds of objections. In
case no such objection is filed with
m the time prescribed, the regular
ity or validity of the application
of no person whose name is so
posted, shall be thereafter con-
tested. The City Secretary shall
preserve in his office for a period
of two years all applications, no-
tice of objections and other re-
lated papers.
Section 6. Any person elgible to
the office of Mayor, Alderman (or
Commissioner) or other office who
has filed hi* sworn application in
accordance with the provisions of
this ordiance shall have his name
printed on the official ballots. Any
such persons may cause his name
to be withdrawn at any time be-
fore the official ballots arc actual-
ly printed, by filing in writing with
the City Secretary a request to
that effect over his own signature,
duly attested to by a Notary Pub-
lic. No name so withdrawn shall
be printed on the ballots. Not later
than twenty (20) days before the
city general election the City Sec-
retary shall have the official bal-
lots printed.
Section 6. Each qualified voter
who desires to cast an absentee
vote and who expects to be absent
on the day of the «ity general
election shall be entitled to an
official ballot and the right t<
cast such ballot in accordance with
the provisions of Article
Vernon's Texas Statues.
Section 7. That hereafter nil
