Editor's Column
Caldwell today, we honostly be-
lieve, is one of the tidiest and moBt
attractive little cities in the state,
barring none. Never before in the
history of cur city,, have property
owners given more study and atten-
tion to cleaning up, and fixing up,
than they have this spring. During
the past two or three Weeks, wonder-
ful progress has been made in this
respect. The lawns and premises
throughout the city are in the most
beautiful and trim condition that
they have been in the history of the
city. Gorgeous flowen* of every va-
rity and hue, abound in abundance.
Beautiful grass and flowers loom up
everywhere.

ILL SET FOR EAST
TEX CONVENTION
The cooperative spirit - - the desire
to improve manifested by most ev-
ery one is splendid. It is the con-
structive kind — the kind that pro-
motes and builds. It is a spirit that
builds communities, businesses —
everything that is worthwhile. Here's
hoping that this splendid spirit of
cooperation growes and multiplies
increasingly, until we get close to-
gether in all our undertakings and
stay together.

The latter part of last week, Mr.
S. B. Pettis, stockman of the Har-
mony community sold his entire stock
of cattle consisting of approximately
200 head to Mr. H. H. Thompson of
this city and South Texas, and will
temporarily retire from the business
and take several weeks vacation.
The cattle were delivered here Mon-
day and were loaded and shipped to
Mr. Thompson's ranch between Fla
tonia and Moulton. The cattle brought
a good price and a large amount of
money was involved in the transac
tion. It was one of the largest cattle
deals made here in some time.
Mr. Pettis was formerly a railroad
man. He resided in Somerville for a
number of years. Later he moved to
Houston where he resided for several
years. About three years ago he re
turned to this county and invested
in about 1700 acres of pasture land.
He stocked it with cattle picked up
at intervals. Continuous culling and
breeding practiced, built him up a
choice herd of red polled and Hereford
cattle which were eagerly sought by
stockmen.
