Good Roads
Meetisf at Lyoai
There was a good roads meet-
in« held at Lyons Friday, which
was well attended by people
from all over that part oí the
county as well an by a number
from here. Several addresses
•were mfcdu on the road propsi-
tion in regard to the bond issue
to be voted on at an early date,
and from in formation received
from some of those who atten-
ded the meeting, it seeius that
the bond issue is an assured
fact.for the whole county, and
that the people have at lost
awakened to the fact that if
they ever expect to have good
roads now is the time to vote a
big bond issue ami secure fed
eral and state aid in helping to
build a good system of roads.
It is the purpose to issue bonds
and build a number of miles on
a contract to be approved by the
State HigwayCommission, which
the Commission and the Federul
government will assist in build-
ing. While this work is beir.g
done under contract, the large
power tractors and traders will
be used on the other roads
throughout the county and the
work done by them will be paid
tor out of our regular road and
bridge fund which wo now pay,
thuis giving them more time to
work on other roa Is when the.v
are relieved of that part which
is under contract. Every by-
road as well as main road in the
county will be worked just as
soon as the tractors can get to
the m. The com tn i ss ione rs cou rt
realize that th roads are in an
awful condition as a results of so
much raiu this winter, but are
helpless up to date, osthe weath-
er has been so bad the tractors
have been unable t.<l get out on
any of the roads to do any work.
Keep the bond issue n tore your
neighbor and insist that he sup-
port it, and thereby help get
good roads for the county.

Cotton Acreage
Reduction Meeting
The mass meeting held at the
court house last Saturday after-
noon was called to order and A .
N. Lauderdale of Somerville was
elected chairman, and after sev-
eral talk* from different ones
present urging and explaining
the necessity of reducing the cot-
ton acreage one'third this year,
a resolution was unanimously
adopted by those present to cut
the acreage this year one-third
from last year. It it* hoped by
this method being adopted all
over the cotton producing states
to keep the price of cotton up to
what it costs to produce it under
the present high prices of every-
thing and to allow the farmer a
fair price on his product. The
farmer will receive us much ror
the two-thirds crop as he would
for the full crop, as the price will
be guaged by the crop raised,
and then it wiil not take the
amount of labor to raise the two-
thirds crop that it would to raise
the full crop. Uy all means see
that every farine,r in the county,
black and white, comply with the
two-thirds orop. Make our mot-
to, "Mere to,eat and less coW m,"

Wm. Schoppe, whose serious
illness we mentioned last week,
died Thursday after 49 hours
illness with pneumonia, follow'
ir.g influenza. His wife died just
about two days previous and he
was up and about until she died,
relapsing nnd taking pneumonia.
His live children were all sick at
the same time, but are convales-
cing. However, his 17-year-old
daughter, Miss Elsie, came near
dicing also. Deceased was one
of the most prosperous farmers
in the Prairledule neighboihood
and had just finished a new bun-
galow residence lor his family,
but he and his wife both died
before they had an opportunity
to move into it, leaving Ave chil
dren, besides other relative* to
mourn their untimely deaths.
His remains were enterred be-
side those of liis wife in Fren-
stat cemetery, Friday, the ser-
vices being conduct <d by the
Catholic Priest, of which church
they wore ui e m b e r s. His
relatives have the sympathy
of the entire community in their
double bereavement.
Secretary C. A. Bain
Tenders Resignation
C. A. Bain has tendered his
resignation as secretary of the
Caldwell Commercial Club, and
it has been accepted, and he will
devote his time in the futuie to
the insurance business and other
private matters. At present no
one will be appointed to succeed
him. at least not until the regu-
lar meeting of the association at
which time the appointment will
come up. Also the proposition
as to whether the association will
die or be continued on. The
former seems to be the general
opinion.

Last Sunday ou the Ryan

Walker with a shot gun three
times, the first shot taking ef-
fect in the chest near the throat
and the seoonri making a slight
wound near the same placet then
Matt ran and got behind a tree
and reloaded his gun. Red-
dick ran into the house, got a
Winchester and fired one shot at
Matt, but missed him. Matt
then tired another shot at Red-
dick, wounding him in the hip.
