Alto church slates auction
to benefit missionaries
The Alto Missionary Baptist
Church will sponsor an auction,
dinner and pony rides Saturday,
Oct. 21.
More than five years ago, the
church sent a family to Romania
as missionaries and the event is
being planned to help with Roma-
nian ehd&vors.
"Our missionaries have been
very blessed and successful in their
endeavors during this time pe-
riod," the Rev. Odis Bryan, pastor
of the Alto church said. Four
churches have been established
and their facilities bought and paid.
However with the growth of the
churches cost of church camp for
the teenagers has reached the
point where the sponsoring church
has to look at another option. The
missionary, along with three other
missionaries has determined the
only way to solve the problem is to
purchase property and develop it.
The purpose for auction is to
raise money for that purchase.
Members from the Altochurch and
from other churches have donated
many items for this auction.
Among the items are a sofa bed,
tables, coat racks, rocking chairs,
antiques including an old pie safe
and handmade quilt, cedar porch
swing and rocking chair, tires, used
carpet, tool storage chest, copier
lawnmower, tiller, ljve oak trees,
bicycles, two new 100-foot water
hoses, high chairs, porta cribs, fish
tanks, ping-pong table, television,
desks, speaker system, wood
heater, rack for pickup truck and
many other items.
'There will also be hamburgers
and homemade deserts, plus pony
rides for the kids. Hopefully it will
be a good day of fellowship and
also we will have good success in
this worthy cause," theJEUv. Bryan
said.
