Apartment trashed
City police are investigating the
trashing of an apartment in the
Trudy Carter Apartments complex
last week.
Police said the apartment was
vacated by a tenant and left in an
"extremely damaged" condition.
Apparently, the vandal left almost
nothing untouched. Police said
there was extensive damage to the
light fixtures, electrical outlets,
windows, doors and walls.
Kay Bishop, manager of the
apartment complex, was unable to
give police a cost estimate of the
damage at the time of the report.
Shutter bug
A thief, with an apparent need for
window shutters, took 14 of them
from a residence on South Polk
Street
Michael Lane Sanders reported
the theft to city police Wednesday.
Police arc still looking for the
shutter thief.
T.V. taken from motel
Police are investigating the
reported theft of a television from a
room at the Starlite Motel.
Harikrishna Patel reportedly told
police the room had been rented and
after the tenant checked out of the
motel on July 29, the television
was missing from the room.
Police said Patel told them he
attempted to contact the former
occupant of the room by letter and
reported the theft to police when he
did not get a response from the
man.
Tires punctured
Tires on a 1984 Ford Thunderbird
were reportedly slashed while the
car was parked at the Circle W
Saloon overnight Friday.
Police said Russell Popp, of
Giddings, told them he discovered
the two left tires on his car were
punctured when he arrived at the bar
to pick up the vehicle Saturday
morning.
Police have no suspects at this
time.
Scratched
Leroy Grimm told Giddings
police that someone scratched the
paint on his 1988 while Pontiac
while it was parked outside the
courthouse Saturday afternoon and
evening.
Police said the scratch was caused
by a sharp object
The City of Giddings was the
victim of a burglary at the city barn
on Caldwell Street between 4 A.M.
and 5:30 A.M. Monday morning.
Police said burglars entered the
building after cutting the screens
and opening the windows on the
south side of the barn. The thieves
then broke the glass on a candy
machine but were unable to break
into the coin box. The burglars
were unsuccessful in an attempt to
break into a soda machine. The
suspects also rummaged through
several pickups parked outside of
the building but apparently did not
get anything of value for their
efforts.

Burglars unsuccessful
A break-in at Jaeger, Inc. on East
Austin Street netted the burglars
absolutely nothing over the
weekend.
Police said the burglars entered
the building after breaking an east-
side window; however, nothing was
taken from the building.
Forgery investigated
Giddings Police Detective
Captain Joe Lara is investigating a
forgery that occurred at the Food-4-
Less store.
Captain Lara said a printed,
invalid check in the amount of
$292 was cashed at the store by a
man, who presented a driver's
license that matched the name on
the check. The detective said the
picture on the license was
apparently altered and that the man
whose name and license is being
used has nothing to do with the
forgery.
Captain Lara went on to say that
this forgery operation has been used
in six or seven Texas cities.
