Two arrested after high speed chase
YOU CANT SIN WITHOUT A LINE! - Coach Warrick watches his varsity
linemen in a drill as they prepare for the upcoming season.
Two young men were arrested and
charged with Unauthorized Use of a
Motor Vehicle after they allegedly
stole a pickup and led law
enforcement officers on a high
speed chase between Farm to
Market Road 1624 and Lexington
Saturday night
Kenneth Smith, 19, of
Lexington, and Donavan Raiford,
17, of Giddings, were arrested when
the stolen pickup Smith was
reportedly driving, stopped for a
roadblock at the intersection of
F.M. 1624 and County Road 326.
The pickup was reported stolen
from the Allan Orsag residence on
F.M. 1624 about three miles south
of Lexington shortly before 11
P.M. The truck was reportedly
heading towards Lexington.
Constables, sheriffs deputies, a
D.P.S. trooper and Lexington
police immediately began searching
roadways in the area in an effort to
locate the truck and its occupants.
Sheriffs Deputy Jim Clampit
said he met a pickup matching the
description and bearing the license
plate number of the stolen vehicle
on C.R. 326. The vehicle
reportedly picked up speed after
apparently spotting the deputy's car.
Clampit said he turned around on
the truck and the high speed pursuit
began. Constable Ray Pearson and
Trooper Don Claxton quickly set
up a roadblock at the intersection of
F.M. 1624 and C.R. 326 and the
pickup stopped when the driver
found himself trapped between the
roadblock and the pursuing deputy's
vehicle.
The two men were taken to the
county jail by officers after their
arrests where Smith was
additionally charged with Fleeing a
Peace Officer.
