as chairman of the State of Israel
Bonds Maimonides Award din-
ner, according to Dr. Joseph
Melnick, chairman, State of Israel
Bonds Texas Medical and Profes-
sional Services Division, and Wil-
liam S. Goldberg, chairman of
Houston State of Israel Bonds.
The State of Israel Bonds Mai-
monides Award will be presented
to Dr. Raymond Kaufman in rec-
ognition of his distinguished serv-
ice to his profession, community
and Israel on Thursday evening,
Nov.12, in the Grand Ballroom of
the Westin Galleria Hotel.
"As one of Ray's students, Rob
is clearly following in his mentor's
footsteps," said Melnick. "He
has shown himself to be a dy-
namic leader in the Jewish com-
munity and in his field, and he is
the ideal person to lead this trib-
ute," he said.
"I speak for many when I say
that Dr. Kaufman has served as a
role model for a generation of
Jewish physicians, and I am de-
lighted to accept the responsi-
bility of leading this tribute to my
very good friend and teacher,"
Zurawin said.
Zurawin has been a member of
the Community Relations Com-
mittee of the Jewish Federation
since 1982 and its executive
committee since 1990. He now co-
chairs its international affairs
committee. He has served on the
board of the Federation, as chair-
man of theAliyah Committee
since 1986, cochairman of the
Physicians' Division of the United
Jewish Campaign in 1986 and 1987
and currently serves as board
member of United Orthodox
Synagogues. *
In addition to being chairman
of the’ Speaker's Bureau of the
Federation from 1983-1986, he has
lectured on issues related to Is-
rael and the Jewish community to
many local Jewish organizations,
as well as at the University of
Houston, Rice University and area
churches. He has also participat-
ed in a series of lectures on bio-
medical ethics at the Texas Med-
ical Center.
An honors graduate of the Bay-
lor College of Medicine where he
completed his internship and res-
idency in obstetrics and gyne-
cology, Zurawin came to Hous-
ton in 1974 after receiving a Bach-

addition, he has been an active
member of the Anti-Defamation
League.
A board member of the Hous-
ton Institute of Family Psychiatry,
he is a former board member of
United Orthodox Synagogues.
The honoree is also a member of
Congregation Beth Jacob in Gal-
veston, as well as a member of
Westwood Country Club and
Arabia Shrine. He has supported
the Jewish Theological Seminary
in New York City.
