SPRAY PLANE CATCHES FIRE AND BURNS

Sierra Blanca —State Representative Pete Gallego and State Senator, Judith Zaffirini were at Michael’s
Cafe July 1 as part of their seven county introductory tour — Brewster, Culberson, Hudspeth, Pecos, Presi-
dio, Reeves and Terrell Counties. The main concern of Hudspeth County citizens was the issue of the two
proposed dumps — a New York sludge dump and a radioactive dump. Discussed in the question and answer
meeting was the swift registration of Merco Joint Ventures to dump 250,000 pounds of New York sludge
per day. The Senator said it was bad timing with a proposed radioactive dump already in Hudspeth County.
(Opponents of both dumps in Hudspeth County make up a large majority, and have long maintained that
one dump in the county will attract other dumps — which is now being proven). Out of courtesy, the Sena-

away in El Paso July 3, 1992.
He was a retired farmer, and
had at one time lived in Dell
City for several years affiliated
with Agri-Dell Farms.

Paso; son, Kenneth R. Carpenter,
Grandson, Robert Carpr.
and wife, Gail, of Dell City.
Graveside services were held at
10:30 A.M. Wednesday, July 7
at the Dell City Memorial Ce-
metery.
Interment was by Hillcrest
Funeral Home of El Paso.

Timmy Frank Rogers, from Ft.Hancock, was named the Champion
Overall Roper during the 1992 District VI 4-H Horse Show - Open
Event category held in Ft. Stockton June 23. Johnna Rogers, also
from Ft. Hancock, was 2nd High Overall Roper during the event,
announced Sonny Berry, Hudspeth County Extension Agent.
Berry also stated, "The 2nd day of the District Horse Show was
for Qualifying Events to qualify the top 25 participants from our
Extension District for the State 4-H Horse Show scheduled to be
held in Abilene July 19 - 26. Almost 100 entries participated in
the District Horse Show and Johnna Rogers accumulated enough
points to attain the 7th High Individual placing at the Horse Show
by a strong showing in Pole Bending and Barrel Racing,
Also participating in the District 4-H Horse Show were Tracy
Miller and Jodi Rogers.
