came all odds to form a
golf team and make it all
the way to state in 1959
and 1960.
It all started when Buddy
Prewitt, a member of the
family that owned what
is now Acme Brick, put a
nine-hole golf course at
the brickyard. Some of the
kids living at the nearby
employee housing began
s
\
playing golf at the golf
course with sticks. Prewitt
bought them some golf
clubs and helped the team
of Oscar Sanchez, Robert
Sanchez, Ray Limas and
David Gibbons get to the
state finals in 1959. Elgin’s
golf team won state the
next year, as well.

Also in last Tuesday’s
announcement, BCSO
said that the release of in-
formation about this case
was delayed until after
Saravia-Argweta could
be interviewed; at first,
his injuries prevented
BCSO from interviewing
him. Additionally, the
complaint and search
warrant were initially
sealed by the court to
avoid compromising the
investigation.

last week.

The City of Elgin will
begin making some much-
needed repairs to several
city streets later this year
after the Elgin City Coun-
cil approved a new annual
street resurfacing pro-
gram last month.
In recent years, the
council has made the
decision to cut back on
some expenses, such as
street repairs, in order to
build a healthy fund bal-
ance. However, this year’s
budget has half a million
dollars set aside to start
catching up on repaving
and improving streets.
The proposed street re-
surfacing program would
repair 17 streets this year.
The proposed program
also includes replacing
some of the more high-
ly-trafficked streets with
asphalt, which is more du-
rable but more expensive
than the chip seal method
that Elgin has been using.
This project does not in-
clude widening any of the
existing streets.

34-year-old Josue Sara-

by ambulance to an Aus-
