Incident mars opening of Rusk
Lions Club pool
Hundreds of local residents
have enjoyed the Rusk Lions
Club Pool since we opened for
our 2003 season on June 10.
The Rusk Lions Club is dech-
eated to ensuring that our pool
is a pleasant and safe place to
visit. Foul language, intimida-
tion andcrude behavior will not
be tolerated.
Unfortunately, last
Saturday, there was an
incident that required
our lifeguards to call the
Rusk Police Department.
Mothers who brought their chil-
dren to swim were justifiably
upset.
The Rusk Police Depart-
ment respon(led quickly. A
restraining order has now been

Death and no new taxes
I see the republicanparty is
setting themselves up to get
in the real estate business,
Not only are they taking your
rights (stoppingyou, wanting
to know where you're going
and why), raised the price of
your traffic tickets, charging
more for hunting and fishing
licenses, raised the price of
your driver's license, cost
more to register your car
and who knows what else,
now they want to take older
peoples' homes for Medicare
bills.
Then, they sit back and
pat themselves on the back
for doing a good job, saying
they're not raising taxes. As
far as the insurance reform,
they helped the insurance/
medical industry only. It goes
to show you, they talk out of
both sides of their months and
think hke hzards.
I heard one hzard already
talking about all the places
that are not taxed now, real
estate transactions and
death (T didn't catch all the
places they want to tax), can
you imagine, a tax to che, so
there are plenty of places to
tax next year to raise more
revenue (for big government).
They cut the throat of us httle
folks, just to give more money
to big businesses. We do not
need Perry andcompany any-
more. Get ready to vote.
I'd like to touch on another
problem. Property owners
pay the bulk of the bills in
the form of property taxes. In
my opinion, we, the property
owners, should be the ones
deciding on how to spend it,
salaries of all county employ-
ees, schools, jails, raises, etc.
I have no problem with non-
property owners voting on the
important state/county stuff,
electing officials, changes of
state/county law, if the county
needs to go wet, sell lottery
tickets or what ever might
come up, but on spending
tax money in the County,
voters should be the prop-
erty owners.
Also, I hve in the country,
pay city taxes when I buy
in town, but I don't get to
vote for or against a thing
in the city, therefore, I don't
think it's right for the city to
make decisions that effects
the hving conditions of the
country.

Jacksonville paper chooses
favorites
A recent letter from Ralph
Taylor from Whitehouse and
Mike Lavender of Rusk and
their comment to the JDP
(Jacksonville Daily Prog-
ress) said the Rusk paper,
the Cherokeean/Herald, only
printedwhat they wanted—that
they'd pick and choose. Taylor
and Lavender then said the
JDP printed all letters received
and I did notice the editor of
the JDP didn't edit that false
statement.
The JDP editor also likes to
pick andchoose letter s for print.
This editor lets her httle job go
to her head. Now she plays Mrs.
Big and uses a pubhc institu-
tion to reflect a bad imager on
the paper as a whole as she
will deny many writers their
freedom of speech, sort of hke
a dictator. But if you're John
Marshall or Neil Earl, it's one-
half page and print.
Wonder if Marshall and Earl
are related to Lori or maybe
they own an interest in the
JDP. People, when we lost Chris
Fletcher, our former editor,
well, we also lost our freedom of
speech. Chris treated everyone
fair and had no picks,
