ion again as soon as I entered school.
There was always Mrs. Cora Land with her
long switches and his "holly board." Noto-

was the "electric chair" perfected by Mrs.
Precious Williams. It was an old metal
chair in the front of the room. If you
didn't do your homework, you were called to
the front to sit in the chair where the
whole class watched as she whipped you
soundly across the upper part of your legs,
after which you wobbled quietly back to your
chari, having been dared to take the comfort
of tears.
You never chewed gum in Mrs. Lollie
Benjamin'sroom either. If you did, she'd
send you outside to stick it under the
board walk that led to the boy's bathroom
and tell you that you could go back and eet
it at the time to do home.
Timpson was always known for its great
athletic squads both men and women. The
mighty Bears major sport was basketball. One
of the highlights was the basketball tour-
nament. Everybody got new cloths to see and
be seen. During the summer months baseball
was played, but there was no organized
baseball team.
Mrs. Parker: "At one time we had a football
team." A coach, a professor Lockett, came
here years ago and organized a team. They
were good, too. Andrew Bussey and Buster
Rasberry were on that team. They played on
the white athletic field. After the coach
lefts the sports just died out.33
