Mr. Nathan Harris also donated the roadside park on highway
59 south, to the State Highway Department of Texas in memory of
his father, the late Tom Harris.
The people traveled by wagons and buggys in those days--
going to town, church, almost everywhere. We came up to Carthage
went down to Teneha. Of course, we still did a little shopping
in Gary, and our post office is still there, and that's where we
get our mail from now.
Black Gold asked Rev. Ingram, " Was Gary really a town?"
" MY goodness, it was really some town back in those days. We
had about 100 or more families. It still would have been a town
if it wasn't for the highway coming through." He was referring
to F. M. 10 North and South and F. M. 999 East and West.
This church bell was purchased under the leadership of
Rev. Beauford, a former pastor.
