Airman Farje is playing a
key role in the Air Force's
program of adding the ver.

The new variable sweep
wins- aircraft i' the first to
combine the maneuverability
of j fit'hter with the pay-
load and range of a bomber.
Additionally, SAC will gain
the advantages of Increased
speed and reduced crew size
when its B-52 Stratofortress
fleet is augmented by the FB-

the aircraft at an altitude of
more than 60,000 feet, faster
than twice the speed of sound
and make a transoceanic
crossing without refueling.
The bomber, with both nu-
clear and conventional wea-
pon capabilities, is powered
by two turbofan jet engines
and has a triple purpose
cockpit. The crew module is
a self-contained independent
vehicle and serves as oper-'
