S.B. No. 2570
1 (d) One director shall be elected from each single-member
2 district.
3 (e) To be a candidate for or to serve as a director, a person
4 must be a registered voter in the single-member district the person
5 represents or seeks to represent.
6 (f) A person shall indicate on the application for a place
7 on the ballot the single-member district the person seeks to
8 represent.
9 (g) After each federal decennial census or as needed, the
10 board may redraw the single-member districts to reflect population
11 changes. A director in office on the effective date of a change in
12 the boundaries of a single-member district, or a director elected
13 or appointed before the effective date of the change whose term of
14 office begins on or after the effective date of the change, shall
15 serve for the remainder of the director's term in the single-member
16 district to which elected or appointed even though the change in
17 boundaries places the director's residence outside the district to
18 which the director was elected or appointed.
19 SECTION 2. Chapter 1162, Acts of the 78th Legislature,
20 Regular Session, 2003, is amended by adding Section 8A to read as
21 follows:
22 Sec. 8A. METHOD OF ELECTING DIRECTORS: SINGLE-MEMBER
23 DISTRICTS. (a) As soon as practicable after the effective date of
24 the Act by which this section is enacted into law, the board shall:
25 (1) divide the district into five single-member
26 districts for electing directors; and
27 (2) assign each of the existing board positions to one2
