Ate Sulphur Match Heads. The'
four-year-old boy of Jesus Plorez re-
siding in the eastern portion of the
city last evening swallowed several
match heads which very nearly cost
the little fellow his life. Medical aid
was hastily summoned however and
by administering emetics the little
one's life was saved. The child un-
known to its mother managed in
some manner to obtain some sulphur
matches which he proceeded to
stick into his mouth and when he
was discovered by his mother he had
eaten the heads off several of them.

CHARGED WITH SELLING
ADULTERATED MILK.
Three Arrested I5nt One Escaped as
Officer Was lii-iiiiiliir Prisoners to
Town. i
Yesterday afternoon Officer Tra-
vino arrested Lazaro Garza Tomas
Alvarez and an American whose
name could not be learned on a
charge of selling adulterated milk in
the city. The arrests were made on
North St Charles street and the of-
ficer started to town with his prison-
er walking in front of him' taking
them to the City Hall. All went
-well until within about a couple of
blocks of the market house' when
the American who' was leading the
procession suddenly took to his
heels turning a corner and made
his escape. Although the. officers
have been unable to obtain the name
of the man in question they have a
good description of him and he wm
be arrested the first time he comes
to town. The two Mexicans were
released on bond pending a trial be-
fore the mayor.
The milk which was seized from
the three men by ine officer was
tested at the market house bv Chief
of Police Crixell and it was found '
about two.thirds of it was water.
EXOHMOVS DEMAND
FOR PULLMAN CARS.
Many Steel Freight Cars and Street
Railway Equipment Also Ordered
Says Pullman Manager.
An interesting bit of information
bearing upon the condition of the
railroads in this country was given by
H. B. Williams of Pullman 111. who
who returned last night from a short
hunting trip to Point Isabel. Mr.
Williams is connected with the sales
department of the Pullman Car Co.
The company he says has more
orders in hand today than it can
possibly fill; in fact its entire ca-
pacity for the next two years is al-
ready booked. These orders are not
only for the so-called "Pullmans"
of various kinds but also for street
railway and freight cars a large ord
er for all-steel freight cars having
been received lately.
A recent law passed in Pennsylva-
nia forbids the use of any but fire-
proof sleepers. To comply with the
provisions of this law the Pullman
Co. will be compelled to build 430
new sleepers to replace those now
in use which at an average cost of
30000 will represent an outlay
of about $13000.
Mr. Williams was greatly pleased
witn his first trip to Point Isabel.
In former years he has hunted
around Port Lavaca but came down
here this fall on the advice of some
friends and is glad he did so. He
left for the North yesterday.
