Student remains pure as
part of True Love Waits
Some nicknames are em-
barrassing. Some are en-
dearing, Others are intend-
ed as insults.
My nickname is a badge
of honor.
I am "Virgin Chick."
Annually for three years I
have written a column about
why I live a life of sexual pu-
rity as part of the True Love
Waits movement.
After the first column
ran, I learned I am not the
only virgin at NT. There are
other college-aged virgins
out there! I am only one of
many.
The commitment we
made is as follows: I com-
mit to God, to myself, to my
family, to my friends, and to
my future spouse, to remain
sexually pure from this day
forth until I enter a biblical-
marriage relationship.
This commitment is not
something we take lightly.
We are proud to be saving
our purity until our wed-
ding night, as a gift to our
spouse.
In the past, a few readers
have taken offense to my be-
lief in sexual purity. Please,
let me be clear: I am not
judging anyone.
As a Christian, I be-
Laura Watson
Theatre and History major
lieve in following Christ's
commandments, especially
commandments about lov-
ing everyone uncondition-
ally. Though the Bible states
a person should remain a
virgin until marriage, it is
equally clear about God's
forgiveness and redemp-
tion.
True Love Waits and sex-
ual purity are not just for
religious fanatics and old
prudes, but are open to ev-
eryone. Purity is a gift of
love from God.
Too often, speakers, min-
isters, educators and the oc-
casional columnist have fo-
cused on the dos and don'ts
of sexual abstinence. They
attempt to answer questions
like "just how far is too far"
and "what constitutes absti-
nence?"
Though time and space is
limited, let me say purity is
not about drawing a line in
the sand and staying on the
right side. Purity is about
walking in the right direc-
tion. The right direction is
toward Jesus Christ. Fol-
lowing Him and seeking to
bring Him glory ensure the
commitment to purity re-
mains without the worry of
crossing any lines.

ty, you can visit www.True-

be at 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June
26 at Reunion Arena. This is
a free event.

Richard Ross and actor Ste-
phen Baldwin. Some of the
biggest names in Christian
entertainment will also be

dor, and 40 Days. Disciples
Running Around Madly
Acting, a Denton-based the-
atre ministry, will also be

Though rallies and big
events are great to be a part
of, the greatest thing about
being "Virgin Chick" is the
very special moment I will
share with my husband. On
our wedding night, I will be
able to say to him, "This is
for you, and for you alone."
That is why I, "Virgin
Chick," still believe true
love waits.
