entirety, however, authors will be contacted for publica-

TIONS' editorial policies should be directed to the

Fellow Students:
Recall the probing personal questions we all had to answer on our law
school applications, as well as the extensive background information we
had to provide the Texas Board of Law Examiners? Some of us may have
had to reveal and/or explain embarrassing past experiences. Many of us
may even know someone who was denied admittance to law school or the
State Bar for such reasons.
If you're reading this, your record was probably good enough to past
muster. But what if you had to reveal numerous alcohol-related incidents;
involvement in a fatal car accident in which you were driving under the
inf luence and which resulted in the death of a young woman and which you
failed to report until the following day; and expulsion from college for
cheating (specif ically, paying another person to take an exam for you)? A
person with such a background would certainly have been denied admit-
tance to law school and the State Bar because our law school and our
State Bar hold us to a high moral and ethical standard.
So, does it make sense that a man to which all the above applies is honored
by STCL? The misdeeds listed above are all part of the documented and
admitted record of Ted Kennedy, 1 an absurd and demeaning choice as our
graduation speaker. We deserve a better example.
Sincerely,
Marit Babin

Sen. Ted Kennedu, D-Massachusets, has a history of alcohol related con-
troversies. In July 1969 he was involved in a driving accident in
Chappaquiddick, Massachusetts that resulted in the death of his passen-
ger, Mary Jo Kopechne. And in 1991 he was involved in a bar-hopping
weekend in Palm Beach, Florida, that led to the rape trial of his nephew,
William Kennedy Smith.
