TUESDAY JANUARY 38 1902.
Mmr OF WEIGHT.
The Corpus (Irony whose editm
constituted a committee of one that
met and dined with the Detroit
railroad men at Beeviile last Thurs-
day "sizes npw the party as fol-
lows: "Of the party S. Whim of
Windsor and J. J Sparrow of
Goliad have been previously de-
scribed. There are four new-comers.
The first is A. Ross iMdrtnes
whose cards set jut that he is sen
ior member of the Detroit stock
broking firm A. Ross Mclnnes &
Co. He is not a fragile man. Un
der si feet in stature he tips the
beam at 254 lbs. He is not so jreat
a man however as his New York
er compauiou on this trip ('. H.
Lawrence who hefts at 270 lbs.
and is not an invalid. Third on the
list is L. R. Coddiugtou of New
York who only weighs 222 bnfc is
not yet going into a decline at
least he .declined nothing which
went the rounds in Beeviile. The
tiniest member of the party is G
M. Mornn of Detroit. He possesses
only 218 lbs. of avordupois and is
consequently an object of continual
solicitude from his companions who
are not so delicate. No observer
would conclude thnt these gentle
men are here for their health
What they came for and what they
will do is another question. On
Thursdn' they went to Alice where
they expected a conference with
some of the principal land owners
along the suggested routes (there
are thirteen suggested routes) and
they were not certain' whether they
would all continue to Brownsville
as they wished to do. Each of the
gentlemen had pleasant anticipa-
tions of a visit to Corpus Christi
and none of them imparted any in-
formation in a shape tangible en-
ough to be an announcement of
their intentions desires conditions
or capabilities. They are shrewd
business men. It would not pay
anybody here to sell them gold
bricks on commission. Lon. C. Hill
of Beeviile and Dr. K. R. Cutler
of Corpus Christi accompanied
them from Beeviile to Alice."
AccORDiNG.to the latest news of
the intentions of the railroad me
who are now investigating this
section it seems that their project
contemplates a line from Corpus
Christi to Rio Grande and from
the latter place to Brownsville.
Although at first glance many of
onr people night not favrfr such a
project preferring that the road
should come direct to Brrtwnsville
yet it cannot be denied that a road
rnnning along the Rio Grande
would be a great thing opening
ip4richest valley in this coun-
try to devlopuient. Some of our
citizens believe that snch a line
would be even better- thH one
coming direct to Brownsville and
most of tis woulld be only tOj
happy to have the road come ini
any old way it pleases just so it j
gets here.

Impaired Digestion
May not be all that is meant by dyspepsia.
now bat it will be if neglected.
The uneasiness after eating fits ol nerv-
ous headache sourness of tb stomach and
disagreeable belching may not be very bad
now but they will be if the stomach is
suffered to grow weaker.
Dyspepsia is snch a miserable disease
that the tendency to it should be given
early attention. This is completely over-
come by
Hood's Sarsaparilia
which strengthens thewhole digestive system
A LATE fashion item is -to-the

As thev were about two and a
quarter or more inches wide last

SEEKING BURIED TREASURE.
Alenardville Tex. v Jan. 21. An
old gentleman named Bell is now
digging at an old San Saba Mis
sion west of Menard vilie in search
of the traditional hidden treasure
supposed to have been bnoia when
the mission was destroyed a centu-
ry or more ago. M Bell's way-

surroundings. The hidden wealth
which has so far eluded the pros-
pector is claimed by the ancients
to be gold plate and Spanish mon-
ey and worth many thousand dol-
lars. JEEP your bloml pure and your
V. stomach and digestive organs in a
healthy condition by taking Hood's
