planted on the college grounds and
also a number to be planted on the
court house grounds.
Until th? War Department has
had time to expend the appropria-
tions made by the recent Congress,
discrimination wi'.l necessarily be
made against married officers'at a
number of army posts because the
present quarters are not large
enough to accommodate officers with
families.
Comparisons are said Jo be odious,
but the Sun wants to call attention to
the fact that down in the farming
belt of the state there have been two
crop failures in succession, while
here on the staked plains—erstwhile
the "American Desert"—there has
not been a crop failure in nine years.
Hurrah for the Llano Estacado!
—Dalhart Sun.
Beginning July 1st, there'll be two
of 'em each day. Isn't that nice? tf
J. S. Shultz, a prospector from
Seymour, was a pleasant caller at
this office last Friday. Upon being
asked how he Jiked this section of
the country he replied, "I am com-
pletely carried away with it. I had
no idea that this country would grpw
such botintiful crops as I have seen
during my stay here. I am coming
here to live if it's a possible thing."
The Hereford Dental Parlors have

side of their up-to-date parlors.
There is no doubt but that Dr. Rob-
ertson is doing the dental business
of the Panhadle. He has the best

does his work in such a manner
that he has no fear of guaranteeing
all operations to give perfect satis-
faction. If you need any work in

Report Shows a Remarkable In-
crease in the County's Student
Population.
Judge W. B. Boyd, who, by virtue
of his office as county }udge, is alsu
county superintendent of schools,
reports that the sceolastic census of
tlie county has been take#, the re-
sults being as follows :
Number of children of the state
scholastic ag<* (8 to 17 years) in the
county, J92 ; of this number 280 are
resident.'; of Hereford. In addition
to this number there arc SO scholar.
attending the Hereford High School
who are oyer and 31 who are under
the school age; and 17 over and 27
und'-r the age in the county.
From the above report it will be
readily seen that the election to in-
crease the county's school tax, which
was carried by an overwhelming
majority a short time agtn came
none too soon, as with the present
school house facilities this large
number of students could not. b$ ac-
commodated.

An Excellent Example.
E. Carter, the well known stock-
man living on the south side of the
Tierra Blanco, recently purchased
of W. H. Dockray enough trees to
plant ten acres of ground—about
11,000. Mr. Carter should be hear-
tily commended for his enterprise
and progressiveness in thus dcing
his f)art to rr.akc thn. a beautiful
country, indeed, and every citizen of
this and the surrounding counties
should emulate the excellent exam-
ple thu3 set by this gentleman.
