Webb, as he commanded

The Carthage Power
Lifting team competed in
the 14th Annual East
Texas Power lifting
Championships in White
Oak on Saturday. The ten
man team competed
against over 400 lifters
from all over East Texas.
As a team, they placed
second in the meet with a
total of 26 team points.
Rone Ramirez was named
the most outstanding lifter
in the light platform divi-
sion.
Carthage had five indi-
vidual awards in the meet,
with two first place finish-
es, two second place fin-
ishes; and one fourth place
finish. Ramirez and Jerod
Odom respectively won
first place; Ramirez in the
123-lb class and Odom in

On Saturday, the
Panola Fillies basketball
team hosted the Paris
Lady Dragons for their
homecoming in Arthur
Johnson Gymnasium.
The Fillies started the
game on fire, but the Lady
Dragons had the hotter
fire. Paris defeated Panola
on their homecoming day,
70-79.
As the game unfolded,
the Fillies jumped ahead
of the Lady Dragons early
in the half. With less than
eight minutes left in the
half, Paris took the lead
from Panola,
break, the Lady Dragons
had built an eight point
lead. The leading scorer
for Panola was Katie
McCoy with nine points,
all coming from behind
the arc. Paris’ leading
scorer was Taylor
Ammons, as she chipped
in 10 points.
In the second half, the
Fillies would cut their
deficit to within two, with
points; Cox and Rasheem
Jenkins had six points;
and Milton Burton and
Dannin Harris finished
with five points a piece.
Panola falls to 15-12 on
the season, and 5-12 in
conference. The Ponies
will host the Seahawks
from Lamar State College
in Port Arthur today at the
Arthur Johnson
Gymnasium. Saturday,
Panola will hit the road to
Corsicana, to face the
Navarro College Runnin’
Dawgs for their last con-
ference game.

Jones and Cutter Clinton
received second place fin-
ishes; Jones in the 181-lb
class and Clinton in the
super heavy weight class.
DeShun Williams grabbed
fourth place in the 275-lb
class.
In two weeks, the
Carthage team will com-
pete in the Regional Meet
in Rusk.
Paris JC Dragons slip by the Ponies

After homecoming fes-
tivities, the Panola
College Ponies battled the
Paris Junior College
Dragons. Paris jumped
out to an early lead, but
Panola mounted a big
comeback in the second
half. In the end, the
Dragons held off the
Ponies in the final seconds
to receive the conference
win, 62-65.
The first half was com- • Dragons beat the Ponies
manded by the Dragons,
as they had many players
contribute to their nine
point lead. Panola had a
scare when Louis Ellis left
the game with an injury,
while he was attempting a
breakaway dunk. He was
fouled hard, as he fell to
the floor.
The Ponies did stay
close with the outstanding
play from Brandon Webb.
He had 10 of the Ponies

took the early lead in the
first quarter, and never
quit pounding on the Lady
Dawgs. The Lady
Bulldogs from Crockett
overpowered Carthage, as
they ended their season,
49-31.
As the first quarter
started, Crockett went on
>a 10-0 run, befort
Carthage scored their first
point. Crockett ended the
quarter with a 13 point
lead. Carthage’s second
quarter didn’t get any bet-
ter, as the ball would not
fall in the basket. The
Lady Dawgs had open
shots, but the ball would-
n’t trickle the twine.
Heading into the half,
Carthage found them-
selves behind by 17
points.
In the third quarter,
Carthage held Crockett to
just seven points, as
Shireana Robinson heated
up. Robinson had eight of
Carthage’s 11 points in
the quarter. Then in the
fourth, Crockett shut
Robinson down, as they
pushed their lead back to
18 points. As the buzzer
sounded, Crockett ended
Carthage’s season, as they
moved to the next round
of the playoffs.
The Carthage Lady
Dawgs had four scorers in
the game. Robinson
scored 10 of her 12 points
in the second half to lead
the Lady Dawgs. Nikki
Bryant sank nine points,
as most of her points came
from the charity strip.
Cassie Smith ended up
with six points, and Raven
Hicks came off the bench
to chip in four points.

The Lady Dawgs’ sea-
son ended with a record of
18-14 and 8-5 in district.
Carthage loses their lead-
ing scorer, Shireana
Robinson; their ’chief
thief’, Cassie Smith; and
their point guard,
Charmaine Waines, as
they are seniors. The
Lady Dawgs will rebuild
in the off-season, and look
to return to the playoffs
again next season.

Lady Dawgs for a great
season, but unfortunately
it came to an end in Rusk.
