THE GALLEON
light at the end of the tunnel. I'm enjoying it
though. It's not bad. No I don't regret it at all,
though I do wonder sometimes what things would
be like if I had stayed here. Yea I know you're
proud of me daddy, let's not get all mushy. Well, I
need to get going. It was great seeing everyone
again. Daddy I'll be out late tonight. I'm just going
to go out to the land for a while. You know just the
same thing I always do when I come home. Bye
everyone!
I probably sat in that same diner drinking cof-
fee with those same old men half a billion times. In
my youth, I thought they were the wisest and most
intellectual people I had ever met. But now that I'm
grown it seems they just ramble on about nothing
for hours, and they do so because they don't wont
to go home to their nagging wives. For a few hours
they can escape life. I find it strange how my dad
always finds a way to say I'm proud of you son. I
really wish he had a reason for saying that though. I
haven't done anything great in the four and a half
years I've been in college. What's to be proud of?
Hearing as much rambling as I could handle, I es-
caped. I left the world behind me as I always do
when I get a chance to go home, to really go home.
I haven't been out here in such a long time.
This place looks terrible. I can't believe this is the
same place I lived at for the first seventeen years of
my life. It is completely wrecked. The old trailer
house is falling apart. That really makes me sad.
Well, at least I've still got my little fire pit out here.
There isn't a soul for three miles. I guess I need to
get this fire started before it gets any darker. Speak-
ing of fire, where did I put that lighter?
