THE GALLEON
THE DREAMER
I know a bower by the sea, _..
Where cool and unimpassioned, I
Can watch the ever changing sky
Reflect earth's mimic pageantry.
Here momently days flash and fade,
Like candles in a darkened room, --
Cr fireflies passing in the gloom
Of some eternal sombre shade.
I care not if thye fly, or lame
Lag through their painful interludes; ..
I strike Omaric attitudes
And bid them go from whence they came.
A connoisseur of phantasies
Am I, for earth I have no care,
Save that it is the market where
I purchase stuff for memories. --
Here is a gold-spun day, with skies
Of turquoise, here a night of jet,
With countless chips of diamond set,
And in between a sun-set lies.
And there, a pendant of a moon,
Hung on a tinseled string of stars,
A rising sun with golden bars,
A poet's dream, a lyric tune.
The echo of an Attic song,
Caught and imprisoned in a shell,
The tinkle of a temple bell,
The silence of a kneeling throng.
Strange tapestries of red an4 gold,
Woven before the twilight hour
By that unseen mysterious Power
That bids each cereus and bud unfold.
Listless, calm and content I lie
Here in my bower by the sea,
Rapt in a pleasant reverie,
Watching the ever changing sky.
