District School Bell Award
The Texas Retired Teachers
Association offers local units
and districts the opportunity to
present the School Bell Award
Last year the local chapter pre-
sented this award to The Swisher
County' News
The award recognizes news
media for portraying a positive
viewpoint on education and edu-
cators The award also recognizes
media who have promoted the in-
terest of retired school personnel

bers joined together to see to it that
firefighters had food and cold water
to help out with their efforts Spe-
cial thanks go to local businesses
and entities for their help in giv-
ing to those who give so much to
our community, our firefighters El
Sarape donated 15 burritos. Pizza
Hut donated four pizzas. Peggy's
Fire Pit donated 25 BBQ sand-
wiches. Swisher Electric donated
ice, Lowe’s donated bottled water,
and Tulia Athletic Booster Club
donated water
Tulia Fire Chief Johnny Daniels
said, “I would like to thank every-
one that helped with this fire It’s a
blessing to see so much community
support ”

and District Clerk, has been advised
by the Houston Passport Agency
that her office is TEMPORAR-
ILY deactivated from processing
passport applications due to some
regulation changes that the office
will have to implement. The rule
is that a passport agent cannot is-
sue birth certificates. Since com-
bination clerks also issue birth cer-
tificates, they are not allowed to be
passport agents. However, several
years ago when this rule was first
made, we were grandfathered and
