During the year 1926 the Southwestern
Bell Telephone Company reports that it
gained 27,000 stations, which was the
largest gain in Texas ever made by that
company. There are 695 connecting com-
panies operating 931 exchanges with 443,-
900 miles of local and long distance wire.
At the beginning of the year 1926 there
were 10 79 telephones per 100 population
in Texas, while according to the best esti-
mates this figure has been raised to 10.85
for the entire State as of the first of the
year 1927.
