The Association is proud to announce that Nancy Barker's two volume
work, The French Legation in Texas, has been given an Award of Merit
by the American Association for State and Local History. The volumes
contain the diplomatic correspondence of Alphonse Dubois de Saligny and
Viscount Jules de Crayamal, France's charges d'affaires in Texas (1839-
1846). Dr. Barker edited and translated the correspondence, which was
published recently by the Association. Other honors previously awarded to
the work include the Gilbert Chinard Prize, given by the Society for French
Historical Studies and the Institut Frangais de Washington, and the Sum-
merfield G. Roberts Prize of the Sons of the Republic of Texas.
Other AASLH Awards of Merit went to the Historic Waco Foundation,
the Rosenberg Library Association of Galveston, Filix AlmarAz, Jr., of San
Antonio, and Price Daniel (see item on pages 504-505).
