President's Perspective
Only a few months remain in the exciting Leadership for Tomorrow Campaign. What a wonderful opportunity
this is for Hardin-Simmons University!
During this important fund-raising program, over $16,000,000 has been given or pledged, allowing IISU to
effectively plan for new programs, endowments, andfacilities. We are grateful to all those who have participated in
this significant effort to secure new resources for our institution.
As this Range Rider goes to press we can see some of the results of our fund-raising efforts. Construction has begun on the
new Lee Hemphill Music Building and excitement is high as we see this become reality. Scheduled for completion in the
summer of the year 2000, this facility will serve to greatly enhance the School of Music.
During the fall semester the new Connally Missions Center will be dedicated. This 4,968 sq. ft. building will house the
Baptist Student Ministry programs, the Church Relations Department and other missions-oriented functions.
The campaign has also generated new dollars for the expansion of facilities for our successful Physical Therapy Program.
New labs and other facilities for physical therapy will be tremendous additions to our program.
Campaign dollars are earmarked for a new state-of-the-art language laboratory to be housed in Abilene Hall. In addition, a
new computer-equipped study area has been established in Moody Center and the second floor patio will take on a new look, as
the Fenton Williams Terrace is renovated.
The Leadership for Tomorrow Campaign also addresses the need for new funds in the areas of endowments and scholar-
ships. To date over $5,946,578 has been added to endowment during the campaign. Since 1996 the Annual Scholarship Fund
has benefitted to the tune of $3,259,117.
While the Leadership for Tomorrow Campaign has already been successful, more funds are necessary to meet continuing
needs of the University. These needs include:- Restoration/renovation of Caldwell Hall
- University-wide information technology network
- Academic equipment to enhance the instructional program
- Further campus renovations
Scholarships for our growing student population
