TAKING THE CENSUS
Mr. Brown In (letting Up the City
Directory lias n Complete Cen-
sus ns Well.
Mr. J. E. Brown who for sov-
oral weeks has been engaged in
getting up a directory of tho city
of Sun Angelj made The Pivss
oflico a pleasant call last weok.
Mr. Brown is now a resident of
San Angelo having removed here
from Abilono about three months
ago. Mr. Brown is a brother-in-law
of Squire Boone Bob Hol-
land ami Dr. M.M. Woodward.
Ho lived in San Angelo when ho
was a boy. His father was ut
one time engaged in the Btock and
wool bushiest" hero and owned an
interest in a drug store. Mr. J.
E. Brown then a very young
man worked in tho drug store.
Tho family lived horo before tho
railroad came and when thoy
moved to this city thoy came by
wagon from Ballingor.
In making up his lists for tho
directory Mr. Brown ha9 boon
very careful to get all tho names
he could. He has gone about the
work in a vory systematic manner
and ho thinks that but few if
any persons havo boon over-
looked. At tho sumo lime Mr.
Brown has kept a liBt of tho mini-
borof persons in each family and
when his directory is issued a
count will disclose the exact
number of persons in tho city.
A short time ago a little contro-
versy was instigated by reason of
Mr. Brown's hazarding a guess
that "there were at least 0500
people in San Angelo " The news
was sont out from hero to some of
working on it and it will not bo
long until wo shall seo who is
right. If San Angolo has no
moro than 0500 peoplo then wo
are all mistakon for wo honoHtly
think that there ar at least 7500
peoplo horo with a strong prob-
anility ot there being JSU00.
Cooled the Atmosphere.
Saturday and Sunday were un-
usually warm days for this
climate. Tho thermometer reg-
istered OS at eleven o'clock Satur-
day morning. The earlier part of
Sunday night was sultry and un-
comfortable. But luckily in this
world thoro are bit mo for every
misery and at about eleven o'clock
a cloud cume out of tho west with
a strong wet wind and tho change
was accomplished. A little later
a desultory bhowerset in and con-
tinued until aftor daylight. Tho
precipitation was snialj but tho
dust was sottled and the atmos-
phere coolod. Wo might havo
had moro but wo aro tho sort of
poople who aro satisfied with what
wo got.
