BIG FISH SUPPLY.
The fishermen about Corpus
Christi were in big luck this week.
Fish by the thousand gathered in
the holes in the vicinity of the reef
in the upper part of the bay during
the blizzard where they were cap-
tured in a numb and almost helpless
condition by the fishermen who
were busy all the forepart of the
week I ringing them in by the beat
load. Thousands of fish lost by be-
ing frozen to death were seen all
along the beach . The amount of
fish caught here bv the fishermen
and the amount lost on the beach it
is thought will be between 75000
and 100000 pouuds. Caller.
REMEMBERING THE POOR.
Corpus Christi Caller.
Every community has its poor and
"wealthy people but there are few
places that have among their well-to-classes
one person so generous
and thoughtful of the poor as Misb
Carmen Morrell Kenedy of this city.
The Calles learns that during the
past two days this noble-hearted
lady authorized Messrs. R. G. BIoss-
man & Co . to distribute one hun-
dred dollars worth of groceries
among the poor. The convent on
Ithe hill was also remembered by
Mi'-s Kenedy this week. A hundred
dollars was also sent to Mayor Lov-
enskiold by ths same lady it is re-
ported authorizing him to purchase
corn with it for distribution among
the poor Mexicans of this city.

improved more by the pleasant Sy-

more acceptable to them. Children
enjoy it and it benefits them. The
true remedy Syrup of Figs is man-

Gladness Comes
With a better understanding- of the
transient nature of the many phys-
ical ills which vanish before proper ef-
forts gentle efforts pi easant efforts
rightly directed. There is comfort in
the knowledge that so many forms of
sickness are not due to any actual dis-
ease but simply to a constipated condi-
tion of the system which the pleasant
family laxative Syrup of Figs prompt-
ly removes. That is wliy it is the only
remedy with millions of families and is
everywhere esteemed so highly by all
who value good health. Its beneficial
effects are due to the fact that itis the
one remedy which promotes internal
cleanliness" without debilitating the
organs on which it acts. It is therefore
all important in order to get its bene-
ficial effects to note when yon pur-
chase tbat you have the genuine arti-
cle which is manufactm-ed by the Cali-
fornia Fig Syrup Co. only and sold by
all reputable druggists.
If in the enjoyment of good health
and the system is regular laxatives or
other remedies are then not needed. If
afflicted with any actual disease one
may be commended to the most skillful
phvsicians but if in need of a laxative
one should have the best and with the
well-informed everywhere Syrup of
Figs stands highest and is most largely
csed and gives most general satisfaction.
THE ASSIGNMENT LAW.
Austin TVxas January 29.
House judiciary committea
No. 1 met this afternoon and
heard arguments from the same
persons who apppared before
the senate committee yesterday
regarding the assignment law
Evans of Hunt county address-
ed the committee in favor of
his bill and devoted a great
dal of argument to the present
preferred creditor law. His bill
is a copy of the present State
assignment law with an addi-
tion which repeals all laws al-
lowing one creditor an advant-
age over another. Evans char-
acterize.d the other bills intro-
duced as simnly a continuance
of the present preferred creditor
law. He thinks his bill will be
favorably reported.
