fire; when thoy left everything
was all right. Tho Giddings build-
ing was orected in 1881 and extends
from Main to Sandy streets about
180 feet and is sixty feet wide to
the alley running north and south.
The afternoon was quite cold but
notwithstanding this about half
the male population turned out to
soo tho fire. Every member of
tho firo department worked liko

Had tho firo occurred lato in the
night it is probablo that tbo cntiro

Tho extensive grocery establish-
ment of Mr. Thomas Smith and

will probably cover their loss.
Nowbouor Bros had by far the
largest stock of dry goods in tho
city. Mr. Ed. Nowbouor estimates
