CALENDARS FOR 1970 and 1971
The subsequent calendars were calculated priqcipal-
ly from basic data in the U.S. Naval Observatory's
publication, the American Ephemeris and Nautical Al-
manac. They were adapted for use in Texas on the ba-
sis of Central Standard Time, except for the period
from 2 a.m. on the last Sunday in April until 2 a.m. on
the last Sunday in October when Daylight Saving Time,
which Is one hour earlier than Central Standard Time,
is in effect.
All of Texas Is in the CST zone except El Paso and
Hudspeth Counties and the northwest corner of Culber-
son County which observe Metalin Standard Time,
See accompanying map. MST Is one hour earlier
than CST.
All times here are figured for the intersection of me-
ridian 98 West and parallel 32* 30' North which is
.about nine miles northwest of Tolar, Hood County. This
point is chosen because of its central location with re-
spect to Texas and the Southwestern States.
To get Central Standard Time of sunrise or sunset,
moonrise or moonset for any point In Texas apply the
following rules: Add to the timesiven in this calendar
four minutes for each degree of longitude that any giv-
en place lies west of the 90th meridian, and subtract
four minutes for each degree of longitude such place
lies east of the 98th meridian.
At times there will also be considerable variation
for dista ces north an. south of the line of latitude 32
degrees : j minutes north, but the rule for calculating it
Magnetic Declination-Geographic
Table below sives approximate magnetic declina-
tion and geographic position of all Texas county
seat towns. These data were furnished the En-
vironmental Science Services Admnista Coast
and Geodetic Survey (C&GS), Rockville, Maryland.
Values of magnetic declination have been reduced to
January, 1960, and were derived from C&GS Chart
3077, "Isogonic Chart of the United States, 19865. 0."
A chart value is regarded as a mean for the
locality. Figures are in Dearees(") and minutes(').

A table shows latitude and longitude for all county
seats. A map shows the intersection for which all time
Is calculated, with some Texas major cities and their
longitude. These make it convenient to calculate time
at any given point.
Planetary Cnfigurations and Phonmena
In the center column of the calendars on following
pages are given the phenomena and planetary configu-
rations of heavens for 1970 and 1971. By watching this
table one may ascertain the dates of beautiful and
striking phenomena and luxtapositlons of the moon and
stars. Below is an explanation of the signs of the Sun,
Moon and planets, and symbols used in the tables:
0 Thae Sun. Mars.
The Moon. Jupiter.
9 Mercury. Saturn.
Venus. Uranus.
The Earth. Neptune.
6 This symbol appearing before the symbols for
heavenly bodies means they are "In conjunction,"
that is having the same longitude as applies to
the sky and appearing near each other.
8 This symbol means that the two heavenly bodies
are in "opposition," or differ by 180 degrees of
longitude.Position Texas Co
