rived. For many clubs the
first signs of pledging have
beguntoshow. Withinamat-
ter of hours chants were
already beginning to be
heardRush season drew to a
close when social club bids
were signed on Friday Janu-
ary 27 1995.
The ladies' clubs began the
day blight and early with bid
signing.
Delta Beta Epsilon made
quota for bids. Their new

alcohol abuse. In the last issue
the focus was on alcohol.
Illegal drug abuse is a prob-
lem thateffectsalmostall parts
of society. From children to
teenagers and adults drug
abuse is a widespread prob-
leminourcountry today. One
of the places illegal drugs find
themselves more often than
not is on college campuses.
The environment is suited for
this problem mainly because

The ladies of Theta Chi re-
ceived two pledges. They are
of the freedom young people
have.
There are five basic kinds of
drugs:stimulantsdepressants
hallucinogens narcotics and
cannabis. Students turn to
drugs for various reasons such
as depression loneliness and
sometimes just to experiment.
Drug abuse can lead to a vari-
ety of problems which can in-
clude severe health problems
financial hardship social diffi-
cultiesandtroublewiththelaw. Students were asked if they
believed there was a drug
problem on the McMurry
campus and they had some in

halls. One female student
stated she had never seen a
problem. A residence hall as-
sistant said "unequivocally
yes!"

student services said there
have been problems from time
to time in the men's halls such
as smoking marijuana. When
asked about McMurry policy
Dean Urban said policy calls
foranautomaticsuspensionof
at least one year for anyone
