County Parole Board
A letter from James A. Clark,
head of the Executive Department.
Austin, states that Governor James
V. Allred has approved the follow-
ing members of the Palo Pinto
County Parole Board: Hon. W P.
Cameron, chairman; Dr. C. R. Wil-
liams, Dr. R.R. Norwood and Mayor
D. C. Harris, all of Mineral Wells.

the Star office Monday. '
C C. Mack Announces For
Commissioner Pre. 1
G C. (Curtis) Mack has authoriz-
ed the Star to announce him as a
candidate for the office of Commis-
sioner, Precinct No- I, Palo Pinto
County, subject to the action of the
men and women voters in the com-
ing July Primary.
Mr. Mack has lived in Palo Pinto
for the last 20 years and feels that
he knows most of the voters. He
hopes to meet personally all those
whom he does not know beforethe
election.
Mr. Mack has never asked for a
county office before and he feels
that he is well qualified to serve as
commissioner. He has been doing
road work ever since he was 18
years of age. He was with the
State Highway Department for six
or seven years. He helped to build
the present highway through the
county.
"I want the voters to consider my
qualifications,1 Mr. Mack said, "and
if they decide to vote for me I will
greatly appreciate the honor. If
elected I promise to give them a
sincere and efficient administration,
with the county's interest ever fore-
most."
Misses Bertha Goforth, teacher in
the Dotson Prairie School and Le-
nora Teichman, honor student of
the Strawn High Sqhool, visited the
Star office last Friday to see the old
press ig use here.
Pioneer Strawn Man
Dies
Oscar Whatley Pollard, Strawn
pioneer, passed away at his home
in that city, Tuesday. He was 82
years of age and had been a resi-
dent of this county for sixty years,
having moved here from his native
state of Georgia.
Funeral services were conducted
at the First Baptist Church in Strawn
Tuesday afternoon by Rev. W H.
Rucker. Burial was made in the
Strawn Cemetery.
Mr. Pollard is survived by his
wife and five sons, Jim H., Ray H„
Jim ^tom, Ross G Pollard, Strawn,
W. W,. Pollard, Lubbock, three
daughters, Mesdames Lizzie Mitch-
ell, Swenson, Molly Tullus, Strawn,
Hattie Laird, Palo Pinto.
J. A. Brewer, Gib Abernathy and
M. G. Hale attended the funeral
from Palo Pinto.
Strawn and Palo Pinto County
have lost another pioneer in the
passing of Mr. Pollard, who will be
deeply mourned by a host of loving
friends who loved him for his
gentle manners and upright Chris-
tian character.

Cold Wave Hits County
Monday Evening.
Another cold wave struck Palo
Pinto County late Monday after-
noon, registering the temperature
at 18 above and delaying outside
work Tuesday. Snow and sleet
were predicted, but did not fall in
this section of the county. Two
good snowi have already fallen this
winter.
