Seven county offices will be
up for filling in the May 3
Democratic primary in
Brownwood. Four of those of-
fices will be contested.
Seeking three places on the
Brown County Water
Improvement Board District 1
are Stuart Coleman (in-
cumbent) B. C. Drinkard
(incumbent) Levie Old (in-
cumbent) and W. C.
Dillingham.
Stuart Coleman current
board president has served
more than 20 years on the
Brown County board. Coleman
has been directing financing of
state-required improvements to
the filtration plant mandated
renovation to the Lake
Brownwood Dam and new
delivery systems between the
lake and the water plant.

The May 3 Democratic
Primary races at the 35th
Judicial District (Brown
Coleman and Mills County)
level will be some of the most
watched in the state according
to many local democrats.
The 35th District Attorney
race has been the "Hotbed of
controversy" across the state.
The candidates in this race are
Steve Ellis and James G. Bun-
nell both of Brownwood.
Bunnell former Brown Coun-
ty Judge has been accused by a
Witchita Falls grand jury of
Junior-Senior Banquet
set for May 2
Spring time is here love is In
the air and a chill factor is still
among us. Despite the weather
annual banquets are still un-
derway and among those
coming up is the Junior-Senior
Banquet. The tension is already
building between both guys and
girls who need a date to this
special affair. The fear of
rejection is so strong that
consequently many students
attend unesorted or don't attend
at all.
Make this years Jr.-Sr.
Banquet different make it a
time to always remember.
Invite a special friend and be
sure to RSVP by April 30. Senior
and their dates are cordially
invited by the Junior CTass and
must remember to pick up their
free tickets by April 30. Junior
class members must buy tickets
at $6 per person which are on
sale April 14-30. The banquet
will be held May 2 at 8 p.m. But
it you want to really remember
Bank was first elected in 1978.
He previously served on the
water board in Fisher County
for 15 years and says his ex-
perience qualifies him for the
job. He says water is the
community's most important
resource.
Levie Old a 20-year veteran
of the board has stressed unity
of the board in his statements
and believes abundant low cost
water sets up a climate of
growth in Central Texas.
W. C. Dillingham former
Brown County school
superintendent is seeking a
board position. He seeks to help
out the needs of the county
irrigators and the interests of
persons who use Lake
Brownwood for recreation.
Danny Neal Carrol Blevins
and Melvin Stovall are can-
didates for the office of county
sheriff.
Danny Neal is a Brownwood
resident. He is seeking to bring
manufacturing illegal drugs.
He deems the charges
"political" and has declared his
innocence. He indicated he
would continue to run as a can-
didate regardless of what was
said believing his "experience
and advocation of fair and
honest representation" will
speak for itself.
Steve Ellis is presently
assistant district attorney. Ellis
has expressed only "surprise
and shock" on hearing of the
charges against Bunnell. Ellis
has served almost five years as
assistant district attorney. He
says "I am a candidate for
this banquet In years to come
pictures will be taken from 7:15-
8:00 p.m.
The 1980 Banquet will feature
Mr. Groner Pitts as speaker
who will speak to this year's
theme of the "Good Old Days."
There will also be speical
musical entertainment and a
slide show presentation.
The main dinner course will
be steak and baked potato and
all this will take place on 12th
floor of Sid Richardson Hall.

Melvin Stovall a 56-year
resident of Brown County and
presently County Commissioner
of Precinct 3 has no actual law
enforcement experience but
says his service as a county
commissioner and desire to
seek more education and a
qualified staff will help him.
Carrol Blevins a 14-year
resident of Brownwood and an
Army veteran has military
security and city police ex-
perience. He is seeking the
office on an equal enforcement
and protection platform.
Running for the office of
Brown County Commissioner in
Precinct 1 are incumbent
Kenneth L. (Buster) Boyd and
James H. Sheppard of
Brownwood.
Boyd presently Precinct 1
commissioner is seeking to
continue his representation of
the area.

The other major race in the
35th Judicial District is the one
between Ernest Cadenhead and
Gordon Griffin for District
Judge.
Cadenhead presently serves
as Brown County Attorney.
Four years prior to being coun-
ty attorney he served as justice
of the peace. Regarding the
judgeship he says "I feel that
Homecoming committee chairmen
student Association senators
voted Tuesday night to approve
committee chairmen for the
1980-81 Homecoming committee
and the body also made plans
for their annual senate banquet.
Ted Miller who was elected
Homecoming committee
chairman last week asked for
the appointment of Peggy Pryor
as secretary; Sonya Schroeder
as alumni gathering chairman;
Lynn Welch as bands chair

Campaigning for Brown
County Commissioner Precinct
3 are Mary Lou Morris Billy V
Stewart and Chester Damron.
Mary Lou Morris is a resident
of Blanket. She is seeking the
office to give better
representation to her precinct.
Billy V. Stewart of Early is
campaigning on an experience
and honestly and hard work
platform.
Chester Damron lives at
Route 1 Zephyr. He is seeking
fair and honest representation
for his area.
Running unopposed in the
following races are: Rosemary
Mclnnis county tax assessor
collector; Nita Bailey county
clerk (unexpired term); and
Frank Griffin county attorney.
Voting will take place
district campaigns
the greatest need is for a judge
to be available when cases
motions and other matters need
to be heard. In criminal cases I
believe in insuring the rights of
the accused to a fair and speedy
trial but I also believe that the
general public has rights and
deserves to be protected from
criminal actions of in-
dividuals." Gordon Griffin is a local at-
torney. He believes his
background in practicing
criminal and cival law on both
sides of the docket make him
"uniquely" qualified. He said
"I believe in swift and effective

from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Absentee
voting will take place at the
courthouse through April 29th.

to be Apr. 29
A Central Texas for Jesus
rally will be held Tuesday April
29 at 7:30 p.m. at the Brown-
wood Coliseum. Rallies like this
one are being held throughout
the United States with the
