SA Secretary leads the parade
Resignations continue
Resignations continued to be
the norm rather than exception in
senate and last Tuesday's
session was no different.
Leading four resignations
was Student Association
Secretary Cherie Walters. Miss
Walters cited classes financial
standing and the fact that she is
also junior class secretary the
prime reasons for her
resignation. Her announcement
caught many by surprise but
before the session began the
Yellow Jacket had received
information of her intentions.
The other three resignations
were not surprises. Junior
Senator Terry Alldredge had
missed more than his alloted
absences and his letter of
resignation was merely a
formality. Sophomore Senator
Becky Askew resigned last
week saying she did not feel that
her performance as a senator
was fair to her class. Junior
Class President Jan Walton
only in office two scant weeks
cited her pending marriage
would prevent her from serving
the class fairly. When the junior
class elects a new chief
executive this morning in their
class meeting it will mark their
third president in five months.

Wilson had told the Yellow
Jacket that two senate officials
were asked to resign because
their gpa's fell below the ac-
cepted standard. Dean Wilson
did not say who the two were.
The vacancies will be filled in
special elections in the three
upper classes this morning.
In other business SA
Treasurer Melinda Bynum
reported that senate had spent
$37.84 on office supplies
memos and a floral bill.
Senate's balance stands at
$1211.13.
Hershel Samples gave the
cheerleader report and told
senate the cheerleaders have
traveled to Kingsville and
Hutnsville to support the team
only to see them lose 89-87 to
Texas AM and 81-59 to defen-
ding LSC Champion Sam
Houston State. In the SHS game
the HP cheerleaders drew a
technical foul although Sam-
ples did not include the details
in his report.
SA President Jim Thomas
presented Mark scott as his
choice for the new Supreme
Court Chief Justice. George
Aldridge former chief justice
graduated at mid term. Raul

In senate's first meeting of
the semester last January 12
Senior Class President Raul
Garcia . told senators
that he was in favor of aban-
doning the student directory
project entirely. Garcia cited
difficulties in obtaining up to
date addresses and other in-
formation as the foremost
problem the committee was
facing. Sophomore Senator and
Co-chairman of the committee
Bruce Perkins also shared the
same views. After an in depth
discussion on the matter
senators took a vote and
overwhelmingly consented not
to produce a directory this year.
