Echols Roberts
Debate Societies
Debating the proposition "Resolv-
ed: It is possible to have a mission-
ary society without violating any
New Testament principles" Eldrcd
Echols and J. W. Roberts spoke to
the missionary study class Wednes-
day evening.
Foy Short class leader introduc-
ed affirmative speaker Echols as
being actually altogether opposed to
the case which he would present.
Echols did not identify himself
with any existing missionary society
but described in his constructive
speech an organization that would
be purely an advisory board sup-
ported by several congregations with
the function of analyzing the evan-
gelistic situation and advising stra-
tegical action for each church.
Echols stressed the fact that mis-
sionaries would be under direct
jurisdiction of local elders. He point-
ed out the parallel nature of
his hypothetical society and Bible-
teaching Christian colleges.
Speaking negatively Roberts be-
gan by saying that he would attack
existing missionary societies which
have stood In the Church's way in
the past and still do.
Selecting the United Christian
Missionary society he called atten-
tion to dissimilarities between its
methods and the Bible's. He empha-
