and if I could have my way a few days I would be very apt to get out of
it. It is thought that we will go to Misouri from here and if so there will
be our Winter quarters. Clothing'" is very scarce here as well as pro-
visions and money and everything else that a soldier needs; it is true we
volunteered but we are treated like regulars if not worse. We are the
only troops that have not received their Pay'o or at least the larger por-
tion of it at least. And we have got none since we left Camp Brazos.20
General Hindman21 says that he is going to get our money for us soon
and I hope he will for we need it; as news is scarce I will come to a close.
Write to me as soon as you get this letter; tell Claiborne and Aunt Mar-
gerette22 to write to me also. Direct your letters to Little Rock Arkansas
Care of Captn Kennard23 Col Nelsons'24 Regiment. give my love to all
and except a due portion for yourself[-]so no more at present.

Dear Parents
Your favor of the 3d of Aug came to hand in due time but have ne-
glected to reply until now. I would have answered it immediately but
I was quite sick when it came to hand and I did not want to write until
I got well. I had a severe attack of the Intermettent fever20 but I am
