The Point Isabel Lighthouse, standing 117 feet in height, was the tallest signal
on the Texas coast. Damaged during the Civil War, it was repaired in I866
and functioned until 1905, when it became the first Texas lighthouse to be
permanently closed down. The building and site are now maintained as a state
