Southwestern Historical Quarterly
Meetings
The Association's annual meeting will be held March 4-6, 1976, in
Galveston at the Galvez Hotel. Treated in the seventeen sessions will be
such topics as Civil War, post-Civil War, and early twentieth-century Texas,
Texas slavery, banking, land settlement, and medical education, Texas first
ladies, Texas wheeler-dealers, the Mexican Revolution, Mexican labor, and
bilingual studies. Because we have added two extra sessions this year, the
first two sessions will be held Thursday afternoon, March 4. The program
will conclude as usual on Saturday morning. Luncheon speakers will be
W. Eugene Hollon, of the University of Toledo, on Friday, and John H.
Jenkins, Austin publisher and book dealer, on Saturday. Billy Mac Jones,
Association president, will deliver the dinner address Friday evening. A
cocktail party will be given Thursday evening honoring Dan E. Kilgore,
incoming president.
The 1976 auction of Texana will be dedicated to J. P. Bryan, Sr., former
Association president, who died last June. The auction is a popular event
at every annual meeting and an important one for the Association, which
uses the proceeds to help support its many activities. We need Texana of
all kinds-books, paintings, sculpture, etc.-for this year's auction. The
names of donors whose items bring fifty dollars or more at the auction (the
selling prices of up to five gifts may be counted together) will be published
in the April issue of the Quarterly. Donations must be received by February
i o, 1976, to be included in this year's auction. Contributors to last year's
auction of Texana were Wayne Gard, Abigail Curlee Holbrook, Hobart
Huson, George Isbell, Dan E. Kilgore, Gaines Kincaid, James P. McGuire,
and the Texas State Library. The Association deeply appreciates the contri-
butions of all donors.
The Texas Catholic Historical Society will meet in the Palm Room,
Galvez Hotel, at 4 P.M., Friday, March 5, I976.
The East Texas Historical Association will hold its spring meeting on
Saturday, February 28, 1976, in Henderson.
