Southwestern Historical Quarterly
1839. The black heritage exhibit was sponsored by Delta Sigma Theta,
a public service sorority that has been concerned with the heritage of
black Americans throughout its fifty-nine-year history.
As a part of its efforts in the Texas College and University Ameri-
can Revolution Bicentennial Program, the Department of History at
East Texas State University announces the establishment of a perma-
nent scholarship fund honoring its distinguished alumnus, W. Eugene
Hollon of the University of Toledo. Friends of Professor Hollon who
would like to share in honoring him and in building funds for this
scholarship, which will be granted annually to a graduate history stu-
dent at East Texas State University, should send contributions to
Frank H. Smyrl, Department of History, East Texas State University,
Commerce, Texas 75428.
A new and comprehensive edition of the papers of Andrew Jackson
is in preparation under the sponsorship of the Ladies' Hermitage
Association, the University of Tennessee at Nashville, the Tennessee
Historical Commission, and the National Historical Publications Com-
mission. For this work the editors are making an effort to locate all
extant Jackson letters and documents, not only those written by him
but those written to him as well. The editors would appreciate anyone
possessing such letters to notify them by writing The Papers of Andrew
Jackson, Route #4, Rachel's Lane, Hermitage, Tennessee 37076.
As the railroads worked their way across Texas throughout the
1870's, towns were established every few miles along the tracks. Dur-
ing the decade of the 1970's, many of these towns will be conducting
centennial celebrations. Often centennial celebration booklets or spe-
cial historic editions of newspapers are issued to commemorate these
events. The Barker Texas History Center at the University of Texas,
Austin, would like to receive copies of these booklets and newspapers
to make the information gathered about the towns available to all
those interested in Texas history.
Morgan's Point, a Texas community that can trace its past back to
1822, is worried about its future. This small city located on the Hous-
ton Ship Channel, less than twenty miles from the city of Houston,
is endangered by the rapid progress of the containerized shipping
center at the site. To protect their interests, some of the residents have
formed a citizens' group-the Citizens for the Preservation of the City20o8
