Cross examining by the accused.
Question. Did I address you in the German or English language,
and in what words did I request you to let me go home?
Answer. He spoke in English and said "let me go home." making
a motion with the left hand, I understand English well enough
to understand that Question.
Cross examination closed.
The Court declined to question the witness.
The Judge Advocate then announced that the testimony on the
part of the prosecution was closed.
The Court then adjourned to meet on the 7th Inst, at 9 O'clock
A.M.

The Minutes of the last meeting were read, the accused being
present and adopted.
Dr. T. Templeman Van der Hoeven,8s a Citizen of San Antonio,
Bexar Co. Texas, a witness on the part of the defense was duly sworn.
By the accused.
Do you know me, my occupation, and what are the means of
your knowledge?
Answer. I know Mr. Gamble, his occupation is that of a Book
Seller, the means of my knowledge are, that I have kept my
Office there for the last two or three, months. I don't reccollect the
exact time.
Question. Are you acquainted with the Books I keep for sale and
circulation; and if so, what is their character touching the subject
of Slavery and Abolitionism?
3T. Templeman Van der Hoeven was born in Rotterdam, Holland. He was a
graduate of universities in Paris and Budapest and the Royal College of Surgeons
in England. After practicing medicine in London for several years, he immigrated
