Texana ever published
THE GREAT HANGING
AT GAINESVILLE
Included is a narrative account of the discovery of a secret unionist
organization in north Texas during the Civil War, the trial of the
conspirators, and the hanging of many under threat of mob vio-
lence, as told by a member of the jury.
Extremely controversial in nature, most copies of the Great Hang-
ing disappeared at an early date and only three copies of the original
still exist; one in the Library of Congress and two in the University
of Texas Library.
