KKKPIMi THK MAINTENANCE CKKW IN HAND night and
day Harvey Piner stays on the run constantly especially lately
with the last-minute details ot the Radford Memorial Student
Life Center.
Maintenance Crew Begins
Day as Students Sleep
n joe niiumtci.i.
Among the unsung heroes of the
McMurry rumpus arc the members
of the maintenance crew. This
group is headed by Harvey Pinner
better known as "Harvey" and
plays an important part In the
operation of the college.
Harvey was a 1930 graduate of
MoMurry and served ns pastor of
the Methodist mission church in
Abilene for three years. He has
been wot king for McMurrv since
was
Assisting Harvey m this never
ending task aie: J. D. Gaines A.
H. Thomas. D. M. Strong Hubeit
Pilo Cuss Maxwell John Swan and
V. I- Hates. Also there is H. B.
Foster who is in charge of keeping
the giounds in tip-top shape.
Theii day begins at 7:30 when
students are deciding whether to
e.it Ineakfast or sleep another live
minutes and often does not end
until alter clink when it becomes
necessaiy to moe some chairs for
a last-minute meeting 01 move a
piano to the dining hall for a
banquet.
Speaking of pianos Harvey
and his crew mood 14 of Uiein
one day lat week. Yon might
hao seen them coming down
the NttiirN of the Administration
building gently carrying a piano
and thought what a job It must
have hHn. Well It wan a bigger
Job than It looked because before
they finished eight pianos had
been carried Jmni the top floor

the Fine Arts building. This lit-
tle job wan also highlighted by
the fact that one of them Han a
baby grand.
But on top of the regular duties
facing Harvey and his crew arc
the extra problems concerned with
getting Radford Memorial Student
Life Center ready for dedication
by next Tuesday.
All day Monday was spent in-
stalling the bowling alleys in the
basement floor of the new building.
The two alleys which had been
.stored in ban neks since last win-
ter had to be moved in six pieces
each one measuring twenty-six feet
by four feet by three inches To do
this a concrete curb and metal
guard rail had to be removed from
a round the window through which
the alleys had to go And. while all
of the sections were in the building
by 5 p m there was still much
work to be done before the alleys
could he used.
The maintenance crew also just
completed a custom-built cabinet
to house the intercommunication
and public address system for Rad-
ford Memorial Student Life Center.
Everywhere you turn there's the
maintenance crew organized and
directed by Harvey. Everywhere?
What about the movies? The Film
Society did that! Oh no the movies
to be shown every Tuesday night
will be seen on a screen construct-
ed by the. maintenafce-crew!
