Texas Intercollegiate Press asso-

will be the principal speakers for
the TIPA convention
Miss Erdman is teaching Eng-
lish and Creative Writing at West
Texas state college In Canyon.
She has had three books published
They were Separate Star and Pair
Is the Morning (juveniles) and
Years of the Uicust. A fourth book
is tentatively slated for fall pub-
lication. Many of her articles and
stories have been published In Red
Book Reader's Digest The Writ-
er Author and Journalist Wom-
an's Day Christian Herald Amer-
ican Ctrl asd other small maga-
zines Years of the Locust Is being
brought out by Hoddcr and Stod-
dard in a British edition in the

McMurry to Fete
TIPA Delegates
at Tonkawa Picnic
TIPA delegates will be enter-
tained this afternoon at Camp
Tonkawa at Buffalo Gap. The 5-
ncro camp has been loaned to
McMurry by the Chtsholm Trail
unit of the Boy Scouts of Amer-
ica The swimming pool ranges
In depth from three feet to nine
feet. There is plenty of room for
games hiking .and "nature study."
Arrangements have been made
to arrive by bus at the camp by
4:30. A picnic lunch will be served
at 7:30
In view of the fact that this
is a boy scout camp only one
dressing room is available. The
girls will dress In the crafts room
while the boys will dress in the
shower room near the pool. All
valuables should be checked with
the sponsors or other responsible
persons. N J locker service is avail
able.
Entertainment will be furnished
by the McMurry Quadrillers who
will give an exhibition. Ruth
Campbell will present two comical
monologues. Pat Bouchette will
mimic Betty Hutton.

Banquet to Highlight the
TIPA Convention Friday
Delegates Housed
In Dorm. Hotel
Tourist Courts
Accommodations for the lodging
of delegates to the TIPA confer-
ence were ready Monday after-
noon according to Kemp Ander-
son chairman of the committee
on accommodations.
Arrangements were made with
Sunset Lodges Abilene Courts
Ponca Motel and the Wooten ho-
tel for the men and President
hall for the women delegates The
arrangements for the Wooten ho-
tel were made for the sponsors
of the delegates Kemp said that
there would be about 20 sponsors
and 80 men delegates. The exact
number of women delegates was
not available early this week
Delegates were directed to the
bookstore upon their arrival and
from there were assigned and
taken to their lodging after a
greeting by the state officials.
Most of the dclcgntes arc stay-
ing Wednesday and Thursday
nights but some will stay over
Friday night.
Also serving on the accommoda-
tions committee are Elda Jean
Littlcpage D. J. Eaton and Clar-
ence Letchworth.

TIPA delegates are looking for
ward to tomorrow night when
awards will be given to the win-
ners of the superior college news-
pipers magazines yearbooks and
Individual contests. These awards
will be presented during the for-
mal banquet in Iris Graham Me-
morial dihing hall.
Three trophies will be given in
the newspaper division. Two tro-
phies will be given in the A & B
division and one to the C division.
Yearbook trophies will be award-
ed similar to the newspaper di-
vision. Cash prizes will be given to 13
first place winners in the Indi-
vidual contests. These individual
contests are: essay (familiar or
formal) news article sports story
editorial photographs column (not
sports or scandal") feature story
poem one-act play advertisement
sports column and literary maga-
zine. Prize is $5 00 for each of
theso exc opt the literary magazine
which is $10 00.
Along with the cash prizes 45
certificates will be presented.
