"The objective of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Research Project 7-4941 is to; determine the best optimization methodology; evaluate commercial fleet management systems; develop the model if this cost-effective relative to purchasing a commercial model; and validate the new model as needed using data available on TxDOT's current fleet."
"This report and its appendices summarize the findings of a 2-year extension to the TxDOT-sponsored study 0-5974 entitled "Estimating Texas Motor Vehicle Costs" undertaken by a Center for Transportation Research (CTR) team of mechanical engineers and economists at The University of Texas at Austin."
"This is a final report of an extensive experimental and analytical examination of the fatigue behavior of the welded end connection used on high-mast light structures and traffic signal masts. The weld details commonly used for these connections produce very poor fatigue performance. Their performance is a function of base plate stiffness, weld type and geometry, and number of anchor bolts. Recommended connections and their corresponding fatigue strength are given as well as recommended fabrication and welding specifications."
"Texas energy sector has a critical impact-historically and currently-on both the state economy and the Texas transportation system. The stat's various transportation modes, including rail, highways, pipelines, and ports, form a system that supports the energy sector in a number of ways."
Report discussing projects initiated under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), a fiscal stimulus package signed by President Obama on March 6, 2009. State agencies like the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) who received ARRA funds had to report, on a monthly basis, various data on each project in the ARRA program, including staff numbers, hours worked, and payroll. TxDOT asked the Center for Transportation Research (CTR) to identify and isolate specific elements of the 0-6592 database that TxDOT's Construction Division (CST) can implement into an existing TxDot database. This report describes the implementation of the database and procedures for updating it.
"Beginning in the summer of 1999, Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) started developing the framework for implementing a sophisticated new system to manage its large and diverse portfolio of projects during their development phase. This was followed by the implementation itself for managing project schedules, project and portfolio resources and costs during their development cycle. This unique and challenging implementation across TxDOT encompassed all functional areas involved in the project development phase. It was successfully completed by overcoming technical, technological, and cultural challenges inherent with any implementation of this scale and magnitude."
"The research described in this report aims to address several of these lingering issues, especially those that are particularly relevant to the state of Texas."
Report discussing a literature review of current budget cutting strategies used in routine roadway maintenance planning, including methods and techniques that are employed by other state and international transportation organizations (DOT's). It also reviewed methodologies developed from previous research and identified the most effect risk management techniques.
"A comprehensive search and review of the use of concrete overlays by the TxDOT districts as well as other DOTs was conducted, with special emphasis focused on gathering information about the constituent materials and mixture proportioning used in the concrete overlays. This review also included new materials such as fibers used in previous studies and new types of fibers currently available. Publications and articles covering the various overlay rehabilitations were used as the background this project, as well as the several studies and implementation projects have been conducted for TxDOT."
Report on the application of a paratransit microsimulation patron accessibility analysis tool in four rural transit agencies in workshops. The workshops provided an overview of the Demand Response Transit [DRT] accessibility tool developed by the research team, obtained feedback on the results predicted by the DRT tool, and identified ways to improve the DRT tool.
"The goal of the project was to conduct a workshop at CTR and in the Austin District that would educate the visiting peers on TxDOT"s maintenance practices and invite their feedback."
Report on the development of the Texas Flexible Pavement database and the first 7 months of a stage two project, after which the project was terminated.
In February 2010, The Texas Department of Transportation (TcDOT) contracted with the Center for Transportation Research (CTR) at The University of Texas at Austin, the Texas Transportation Institute (TTI), and The Center for Multidisciplinary Research in Transportation (TechMRT) at Texas Tech University, to assist TxDot in developing a Strategic Research Program (SRP). This report documents the work conducted from September 2010 to August 2011.
"The objectives of this research study were to (a) illustrate and quantify the impacts imposed by the energy sector on Texas's transportation system and (b) identify key energy demand indicators by energy source that TxDOT can track in an effort to anticipate the associated future transportation impacts on Texas's transportation system."
"This report contains best practices for choosing appropriate locations and design concepts for Texas roundabouts. This research effort is comprised of the following components: synthesis of available literature and analysis methods, development of capacity analysis methods, validation and enhancement of existing tools, and a spreadsheet tool to aid in roundabout planning and implementation."
Report discussing a project, which developed a series of interdependent models and a simulation framework to evaluate the traffic operations and safety benefits of ATM strategies. Four ATM scenarios were evaluated in this study: variable speed limits (VSL), peak-period shoulder use, VSL and shoulder use, and ramp metering.
"The objective of this research is to validate the pavement Structural Condition Index (SCI) developed under a previous Research Project, 0-4322, and to develop guidelines for implementing the SCI at the network level."
