About the Museum
In 1984, Austin-based artists Sylvia Orozco, Sam Coronado, and Pio Pulido teamed up to create the Mexic-Arte Museum and share the art and culture of Mexico with the people of Austin and all of Texas. They hosted the first Day of the Dead Festival that same year, and it remains the longest-running festival of its kind in Texas, showcasing Latino/Tejano artists, entertainment, and educational programs in the heart of downtown Austin.
Today, the museum sits squarely in the heart of downtown Austin on Congress Avenue, where it moved to in 1988. Since it's only one of a few Mexican art museums in the United States, it provides visitors and the community with a unique cultural and learning experience.
