Camp Stewart was a temporary U.S. Army Camp that was specifically established by General John Joseph Pershing (September 13, 1860 – July 15, 1948), near present day Fort Bliss, Texas; set up to defend the Texas/U.S. border against possible U.S. attacks/raids against the Mexican Revolutionary Pancho Villa and his armies. Camp Stewart served as the base camp for the U.S. Army Troops that were also part of General Pershing's Punitive Expedition.
