Denton County Newspaper Collection

Documenting the history of Denton County and its county seat from 1892-1911, the Denton County Newspaper Collection offers a detailed view into the growth and expansion of the county as an agricultural and educational hub within the North Texas region. The collection features early editions of the Denton County News, the Record and Chronicle, the Denton Evening News, the Denton County Record and Chronicle, the Denton Monitor, the Legal Tender, and the Denton County Record. The daily and weekly papers detail development of the city of Denton as it grew around what was Texas Normal College and Teachers Training Institute (now University of North Texas), along with how it developed around what was once Girls Industrial College and is now Texas Woman's University.
