The students have been rather slow
in organizing the Students Council
this year. Perhaps no one was to
blame.
There has been a complete change in
college alfuirs making the perfecting
of some of organizations rather late.
The fact the Student Council has been
the last to complete it's organization
is no reason that it is least in import-
ance. As a matter of fact it is the
most important organization in the
school. It stands for the discipline of
the student body and the elimination
of the undesirable. It is in the student
council the idea of student self gov-
ernment will be developed. This being
true the student body has need of just
.Mich an organization. The faculty
and we say it with due respect und
consideration is unable to cope with
every phase of college life. There is
no other organization that is prepurcd
to assist in discipline and in the main-
tenance of those high ideals of honesty
and integrity that should characterize
every student body.

Prospects of an Intercollegiate Debate
.Monday night committees were ap-
pointed in the Tlieodoric and Thco-
philian Literary Societies to confer
with a committee from societies of
Uaniel linker College to arrange for
an intercollegiate debate to be held
some time during the collegiate year.
It is understood the students of Daniel
linker and Howard Payne feel the
need of a debate between the two
schools.
The Prism believes there should be
such a debate and sees no argument
against it. They are both senior col-
leges and have the same recognition
from the State University. There
would not be that extra expense that
ordinarily accompanies an intercolleg-
iate debate since botli schools are lo-
cated in Brownwood. It would serve
as good advertisement for the colleges
and no doubt wold stimulate society
work within the schools.
It seems that if it serves only the
last purpose such a debate should be
had. Tlie problem of interesting many
new boys that come to Howard Payne
in Society work is becoming harder
each succeeding year. It is hard to
interest them in athletics until they
see a game between the two colleges.
After tins they catch the spirit and it
is no longer a problem. It is reason-
able to think that such would be the
result in a liner and better work than
athletics.

There are numerous avenues by
